It's Gilbert tb2k82ce Lifetime Member who has a picture of a CE with a black Bra on his signature.  I'll send him an email if I don't get a response from him soon.  It's a mini and I thinkEcklers has it for $89

I also have a bra on my 1981!  I got it from MidAmerica Motorworks.  I do not use it as much as I thought I would!!

I am surprised they said it was lacquer. I know GM used it in St. Louis, but I thought they switched to acrylic in BG.

I would check with someone before I had any paint applied.

Some "early" 82's were built in St Louis.  They were painted with the lacquer.

Can you give me the source of your information about '82s being built in St. Louis?  It contradicts the Reference and information that I posted above.  My '82 CE in #13747 and I'm trying to get the scrape repaired but if it's lacquer it seems to be a big deal with the prep, and matching.  If it's the Bowling Green two stage enamel clear, not so much.

No '82s were built in St. Louis. All were BG cars. Some of the '81 cars were built in St. Louis, some in BG. The BG plant went on-line for the '81 year model, so cars were built in BOTH plants at the same time. ALL of the BG cars were Enamel paint...no lacquer. The biggest reason for the new plant in BG was the new paint facility, which enabled GM to use the enamel paints, and do a much better paint job. Thumbs Up
The only real worry about fixing the boo-boo on your car is using the flex agent in the paint on the bumper cover. Since the cover is flexible(urethane), the paint needs an added flex agent to keep it from cracking when the cover moves/flexes. If it is painted with "regular" paint, the paint will crack as soon as the cover moves at all.... a small bump, or even pushing on it too hard with your hand can cause the paint to crack.

btw...the BG cars were also base/clear coat paint...a first for Corvette. Big smile

tb2k82ce said: Good looking car.  Did you ever get anything back from Steve on the rear window hinges?  By the way the black bra came with my car so I have no idea on who made it or the cost.  It is gone now waiting to start to get the car ready for painting.  I will paint the fader strips on the side and hood.  I have a painter in town that has done at least three that I have seen he gets better each time.

I made a note to contact him and I will just to see if he is still doing them.

Frankly, I just got it home yesterday, and overwhelmed with where to start on it.  Ordered tires, washed and put it's first coat of wax in ??? how many years.  After tires, I have to get to the Corvette Center for engine and safety check.  Starts great, but runs crappy and the brakes are great.  I have to get a mechanical baseline on it before I prioritize what has to be done to get it ready for the Caravan.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
On the runs crappy besides the standard fuel and spark we have air flow issue with the crossfire.

Vacuum leaks will make it idle fast and crappy. Low fuel pressure usually is not an issue at idle unless it is really in the toilet.   By the way spark plug wires caused me some issues they can burn easy if not routed correctly.  They and also burn if routed correctly.  If I had wire issue to do again I would get some racing high temp wires and route them correctly.  You can get some that you can lay on the exhaust manifold and they will not burn.  If anyone is interested I found them using Google "high temp spark plug wire"

Anyway lots of fun.

Rick,

For what it's worth, I got some acrylic lacquer for my '72 back in 2011 from this source.

Not cheap but an exact match.

Good Luck,

Dan

Thanks Widetrack, but my '82 came from BG with acrylic enamel base coat/clear coat system."  so anything done will have to match.  I don't want Lacquer for all the reasons that they changed from it.  See the BOOBOO on the front passenger side.  Concern of the painter isn't getting the paint, but the matching of the other paint that is 32 yrs old.  The car has been garaged for the last 27 yrs and only driven 6 or 7 times a year since 2001 (only 1,290 miles).
