As far as daily drivers, many of us do that. If you are looking for a comfy ride, navigation system, etc, look elsewhere. But if the car is in good repair, there is no reason you couldn't drive it every day. Some people have overheating problems, (motor and/or driver), but nothing insurmountable. I find having a second (winter) car takes the stress out of commuting with a 30 year old car, as I can lay the car up a couple of days if needed to properly do a repair. Also, I don't have to drive in the rain and get drippage on my shoulder or passenger seat where the top leaks. Joe

my dad says i shouldnt get one because the card will be nothing but trouble and i will end up selling it a week after i get it. he has plent of horror stories about how when he was a kid and he had to sit there and wait for the car to feel like starting up. is this as big of a issue as he is making it be?

I'm not going to debate your dad on his memories, but so much depends on the individual car you buy and how it was cared for. Can Corvettes from any era be finicky? Yes they can...they're thoroughbred automobiles and can require the extra attention a thoroughbred needs. That being said, all Corvettes are American iron with all the advantages of using common Chevrolet parts.
These days, carburetors are much more sophisticated and tuneable than before, and much of the problems of old age with these cars is no longer an issue. Current replacement parts are generally so much better than what the car came with there is little comparison. Ignition systems, carbs, intakes, tires, etc., are far superior today and make for a more driveable, powerful, and enjoyable car. The only reason to maintain the original systems is if you want originality above anything else.
There are lots of C3's out there, so you don't have to buy the first you look at. Decide what you want, the options, coupe or convertible, and concentrating on that, be discriminating, and you'll find what you want.

My Girl is a 71 350 270HP originally. There's a lot you can do to increase HP if you don't mind getting away from original. With a cam, new pistions, Edelbrock high rise, Holley 650 cfm, headers, hotter ignition, I would guess she has from 400-450 HP. Will dyno test and find out soon. Get a 70-72. No emitions and a lot of HP options to work with. I stole mine for $5700.00. Really all that's left is a new paint job. All I know is she gets right out of the hole, and cruises way faster than I care to go.

Ok Gunslinger who the heck are you.... ? Are you Bruce?
the guy that has the white Charger along with the 78 & 69 Vette?... Just curious because I thought I knew "all" the Corvette guys here in Frederick....
Now back to the original question on the C3 .. I own 3 of them... 72 Rag top, 76 Coupe...and a 79 .. I am now unfortunately up to 220 pounds and stand 6'1 and all 3 have plenty of room in the cockpit for me to be comfortable...well up to a few hours in anyway!
Personally I could drive these cars every day and do not think I would encounter many problems.. but I kown my cars..not many parts on any of them that I have not personally become "friendly" with... been there none that
(fix and repair) to just about every component ...
Getting an engine up to a true 300 HP status is actually
pretty easy...mostly compression and breathing but I sometimes question the need... My lowely 76 L48 4 sp ..low option car no a/c roll up windows etc will lay rubber in all 4 gears and I am very comfortsable putting it into a 4 wheel drift around turns... and that engfine is bone dead stock...true duals and no cats however. and of my 5 Corvettes is my favorite all around car to drive
polenty of power for my uses..good ride yet you can through it around ...does not get much better then that...
The C3 is a pretty easy car to work on also... no degree needed to do your own wrenching...Of the 3 I own I guess
the the only common problem is the power steering control valves which have all been replace more then once and still leak every spring...
The only thing that would stop me from buying a C3
other then a project car that would need complete repainting and major body work is:
the rusting rivets across the nose just below the
hood opening..between the headlights...if you can
see dimples in the fiberglass in that area I would
walk...
It is a very commom problem. ..but very very
time consumming to remove the brace and replace and you will need a complete re paint job when you are done...
Just my opinions...

And Gunslinger.... Frederick County has a very
friendly Corvette Club...

Hi Bob!
Yes...this is Bruce hiding behind the Gunslinger handle...it comes form when I was a cop.
I do have the white '67 Charger (planning on selling it), plus the two C3's...a '78 Silver Anniversary L-82 and a '69 roadster L-71.
I did join the local club...went to my first meeting last night...pretty decent and rowdy bunch!

I can give you an idea on the interior shortly as my '78 is getting new upholstery and carpeting as I'm writing this. It will probably be about two weeks and I can have an answer for you if someone else can't answer it first. I can't help you on a cost for paint...too many variables. A steering wheel that's been renewed will likely run you from about $175 to about $250 with your current wheel in trade. You could also get yours redone, but takes longer. That's your call.
o0o yeah i forgot to ask, is it possible to put ABS on the car? lower that insurence ;) thanks for the info too, do you know of any websites that sells referbised steering wheels? I'm trying to tally up wut i will need if i buy a certain car (im lookin at about 10 right now)
