I just got moved into my new place here in Tacoma.  Picked up my car from my friend who was storing the corvette from me....bad news.    The front, back, and hood all have damage! Angry

I went through Cascade Vehicle Shipping.  They are a broker company based out of Camas, WA. They assigned MONTY'S VEHICLE SHIPPING (based out of Big Fork, MT) to ship my car from Charleston, SC to Tacoma.   Monty...who is the owner/operator...is the most unpleasant person I've ever dealt with. He is hard to get in touch with, and when you do, the guy is always angry at the world. NOT the kind of person I would have hired to move my car had I been given the choice!.

He picked up the car on 5/16/2010 and delivered it to my friend in Tacoma on 5/29/2010.  The front bumper has been damaged, the rear of the car looks as if he scraped it on the ground while loading/unloading the car (paint is cracked, peeled, and chipped), and the hood has numerous paint chips.   When I called Monty to talk about the damage, he hung up on me.  He refuses to answer any of my calls or return my messages.    DON'T USE EITHER OF THESE COMPANIES!!!

I'm working with my insurance now.  Thank god I took pictures and video the morning he picked up the car.  I'm sure my insurance will cover the damage...but either way, I'm still out the deductible Unhappy

Just wanted to pass that on so y'all can learn from my mistake.

Shane that really sucks, glad to hear your insurance will cover it.  Thanks for sharing that, now I know I will take very detailed pictures of every inch of my Pacer before I ship it to Hawaii.  Hopefully being inside a ship will be better Ermm  Look forward to cruising with ya some time this summer.

If Monty's is a legal shipper, he is required to have insurance to cover any damage to your car. When they picked your car up did they give you a copy of a paper with an image of a car which is used to note any scratches, paint chips, dents, etc.?

Shane,
I'm sorry to hear about that. I hope Mr. Monty can be held responsible and be made to pay for what he did to your Vette.
Rude people STINK! Thumbs Down What else can be said of them (at least what we're willing to say here).

Mark...I would take photo's, video, and make sure you have something to prove the date you took the photo's (news paper...). Shipping a car is never easy...you're trusting someone who has no sentimental/emotional/financial attachment to your car to take as good of car as you would yourself.  Unfortunately...that's hard to find.    I didn't have a lot of time to plan my move...but one thing I wish I could have done was find a local shop that deals classic/rare cars.   Ask if they use any specific carrier...and go with them.  Not some company that had good "reviews" on the internet.     ...Turns out that Cascade Shipping offers you a $50 rebate if you give them a positive rating on www.transportreviews.com.   Angry

Jim...I have the "Bill of Lading" that was dropped off with the car.  It is identical to the one that he gave me at the time of pickup.  There were a couple of dings on the car before he picked it up...which I told him about and also took photo's of. None of the new damages are noted anywhere on the paperwork he dropped with the car.  Monty said that because he has a document "proving" that the car was in the same condition it was in at pickup, that it is not his problem. Fact of the matter is that my friend didn't know the condition of the car at pickup, so she couldn't give an accurate statement to any additional damage when he dropped it off. He seems confident that he can rely on that paperwork in court if I decide to take him...i disagree.  I doubt a "Bill of Lading" signed by a third party member who is not the owner of the vehicle, nor has any knowledge of the condition of the vehicle upon pickup, will hold any weight...especially with all the photo's and video I have.

Kevin...I doubt this guy Monty is going to man up.  Seems like too much of a coward.  I will hold back the four-letter words and other choice phrases for now....but for the record, I have more than enough to make a sailor blush.     We could always use this guy  Censored..but that doesn't seem to be enough Tongue

Here are a couple photo's of the damage.... The rear took the majority of the damage.  Hard to tell from the photo's, but the entire lower portion of the rear bumper is damaged.  The paint is either chipped off...or is cracked and will soon fall off.  The front isn't as bad...just numerous impacts, chips, scratches, and gouges.

What did Cascade say about the deal? Maybe they need a quick note from each of us hear asking them to look into this matter?
If we show our numbers it may help your cause, I'll be the first to send one off if you'd like, just say go and give me their website.

Either way thanks for letting us all know, I'm sure your bad experiance will help anyone planning to ship a vehicle.
So how you like that heatwave in Tacoma?

Cascade said they would no longer forward business to Monty. Ermm   I trust what they say about as much as I trust Obama will LOWER taxes come January LOL

They did, however, forward his insurance information to me! Big smile

Took the Vette up to a local body shop that came highly recommended by a local classic/rare auto dealer...damage is $1900 Thumbs Down

That is to remove and paint the front and rear clips, repair the gouges on the hood, and repair/paint/blend the rear quarter panels.

Thank god for insurance.  Gonna take my time on this though...will pursue his insurance company first so I'm not out the deductible.  This is such a pain in the @$$ though.  There are plenty other things I would like to be doing than chasing down insurance companies.

Mark, does your car have clear coat? If so, I don't think you will be able to blend the clear coat in. I've always been told it had to be clear coated to a break.
