NEVER use a broker. They take your deposit, which you will never get back, and put it out to bid waiting for someone to take it for what's left on the quote. We just moved my Mom cross country and found out the hard way. My mother hired this sham outfit before I even knew she was planing on taking her car. Never picked up the car on the agreed dates, kept saying the driver would call and never did. I called them and boy are they nasty, ugly people. Guy even called me an A--hole. Refused to refund my elderly mother. The moving van was long gone, we had a flight to catch and this guy said it could be up to 2 weeks more cause the drivers truck was broke. (read the same print) Had to get another company and drop the car off at their terminal. They did a complete walk around and noted every little scuff and scratch.
Only use a good company and not some jerk sitting at his kitchen table collecting deposits that couldn't care about your car.

To be old and wise your must first be young and stupid.  Guess this is just another lesson learned. Sorry to hear your mom had to learn it the hard way as well.  Makes me sick to know that these people are out there though...
