...Does anyone actually know first hand of someone that has had his car stolen. By first hand I mean have talked to that person not just heard about it.
My sister had two cars stolen while parked in Philly.
I had a car stolen in Southampton, PA. Granted, I left it running with the doors unlocked, but still. It is really weird for a car to be stolen in Southampton. That was a very strange feeling... went out in the morning as usually to start my car, came back in to eat a bowl of cereal, went back out, car's gone! I just stood there in disbelief looking to my left and right like I must be crazy and just forgot where it was. When I realized it was actually gone, I ran up the steps back into my condo, woke up my wife and said to her "someone stole the f***ing car!" She said "What!?" "Someone stole the f***ing car!!!!" "WHAT!?!?!" Neither of us could believe it!
Had to wait 30 days for the insurance company to consider it a total loss. Then I got a new car. Two days later I get a call at 3:30am from a detective in Philly telling me they found my car. I'm thinking "great, he woke me up at 3:30am to tell me he found a car I don't own anymore." Technically, it was now owned by the insurance company. He said they pulled over someone driving it for running a red light (or turning right on red, or something like that). Criminals really are stupid! If you're driving around in a stolen car, don't break the driving rules and stick out. That's like the dopes running drugs speeding on the highway, and get pulled over for speeding, then also get busted for drugs. DUH!
There were two people in the car when it was stopped. I had to testify in court that the guy driving was not authorized to drive my car. Also, it turned out that the passenger confessed to actually stealing the car. As you've probably heard, car theft is often a crime of opportunity. He said he just happen to be walking through my condo complex and saw my car running, so he jumped in. Also, he lived around the corner from my condo and was someone my wife knew from her childhood. Get this... when they were kids, this guy stole her bike!!! Once a crook...

I had my Corvette stolen, while it was in for service at the Chrevrolet dealer (called Chevy Heaven). Well that's pretty much where it went. They found it chopped up and burned with my plates stuffed in the gas tank. It was dumped on top of another chopped/burned vette. Ive had numerous attempts also. On roadsters, they would bend the vent window mounting pin at the top, which then allowed access to the pull knob on the inside. They would peel the ignition switch..........but couldn't get the engine started because I would always pull the plug on the transistorized pulse amplifier. It was located next to the driver side lights. You really couldn't see it, but could get the plug off and on. These attempts, three times never got the car. This always happened on my C2 cars. corvette440hp 2008-02-18 15:09:57

I didn't see this mentioned before, but I have a good/inexpensive solution that I believe works very well. They make a product (I've only seen it at autozone) that actually anchors on to the floorboard below the brake pedal and then clamps around the brake pedal itself..You raise the clamp via a handle which clicks in to place, rendering the brake pedal inoperable, and therefore undrivable...Of course, that wouldn't help with a flatbed, but at least nobody can just get in and drive it...The better of the two models of this device uses a coke-machine-style lock, which even a locksmith will tell you is very tough to pick. So, there's my 2 cents worth!
