thank you for the welcome notice... I have a question for anyone who can help me,.... I am trying to find a site or business that will do a title and vin search on a car that is from the early 70's... All of the online sites only do searches for 17 digit vin's. Any advice? also, does anyone have experiance with a car that has no public vin but all the other number (engine chassis and hidden vins behind glove box) match... I am thinking about buying this car but because of the missing public vin i am skeptical. All searches have come back clean so far, but what do I do as far as the missing public vin plate? thank you

Sorry Scotty but there isn't one. i've tried too. the only place you can try is your state DMV and they charge a price. not too bad of one either |cheers|

A thought for anyone else out there that is considering a VIN search. Do it sooner than later. I have heard from several people that they have been unsuccesful tracing their car back to original purchase because the state DMV's are purging their archives of information that is over 25 years old. It will vary from state to state.

One of the previous owner's of my '69 was only able to run a Texas title trace back to '72 because their records didn't go back any further, and that was in 1991!

Good luck.
