okay so. um. all my ideas...10 second C3...ruined. the thought that has been nagging at me all along has jumped out into the open. my 77 is a classic corvette...how horrible would it be if something happened to it on the strip...it rolled...or hit the wall...how big a crime would that be.

now, this weekend, I went down to the chevrolet dealer to look at the C6. it had already sold, but they saw me pull up in the 77 and wanted to sucker me, so they showed off a C5. 2004. and I made a big mistake. I asked to drive it. they finished my mistake. they let me. I was...absolutely...FLOORED. fast, but you can't feel it. it rides so SMOOTH...and it's so sophisticated. so I started thinking...what if I just put a cheap but efficient crate engine in my 77...keep it at like 450, 500 horsepower...keep it a show car. get the 2004, and put the twin turbo in, the boost control in, for 800 horsepower I can tone down to 500 at will...wouldn't need an EFI kit for the 77, I could leave it carbbed...and make the C5 the 10 second racecar. I assume it would also be MUCH easier to find suspension/drivetrain reinforcements and roll cages for a C5 corvette.

it has torn me in two different directions for three days now. on one side...two corvettes. expensive as hell, and how on earth would I divide my driving time between them? (this is where all of you who have two vettes come in, advice please!)

on the other side...I could keep the C3 in flawless condition, never risk ruining it at the drag track, have it be the perfect show car. but how on earth would I divide my driving time between them?

someone please help me...lol.

oh yes, I'm gonna make a thread just to see what kind of damage the C3 would take, to help me decide here.

man are you made of money or something ??

how can you afford this on an e-4's pay ??

but when you look at converting a c5 to drag car..

your taking a very expensive car and making very very expensive mods to it

there is not nearly as large of an aftermarket for the c5 cars as with the c3..

my decision would come down to money.

while the 77's are good looking cars as are all c3's they are probably among the most underpowered from the factory and their "collector value" isnt very high..

they made 49K vettes that year.. my personal opinion.. i would risk a 77's life before I would pay for a 2004 c5 and destroy it.

I was thinking it would be easier to make a C5 into a drag car than it would a C3. the engine's already fuel injected, I'd just need to set it up for forced induction and make sure the twin turbos could fit under the hood...and make whatever reinforcements are necessary. you must also remember that that C3 is my first corvette and very treasured.

Looks like you are in the $100,000.00 range total for everything you want to do. Factor in maintenance, insurance, storage, etc., plus do not forget depreciation, as you will lose $20K as soon as you drive a new Vette out of the showroom.
If it makes you happy, go for it, as we all have our ways of unloading dough.

The only part of this that i can adress, you wanted to know how do we with 2 Vettes decide on which to drive? For me, and it would seem for you, this is simple. When Ronda and i want to go out and just cruize, get some attention, but not stay anywhere for a lenght of time, thats the Custom Vettes job. When we want to go say to the movies, enjoy the joy of a Vette but not draw attention, not race but relax, thats the Yellow Vettes job.
If you have a 10 second car and a cruizer, it would be just as simple. What are you wanting to do at the time, relax and cruise there, say as if you have a girl with you and are going to dinner, or a long term drive? or is it you want to show off, win some money, and wont be spending some time in it?
Trust me on one thing: you wont want to spend 3 hours driving a 800hp car, unless its all spent at the races. Anyways, my 6cents worth (to long for 2 cents) on that aspect of your post. |saluteflag|

This will not be the problem you think it is. They each have their time and place and deciding which to drive will come relatively effortlessly. |cheers|

Picking which one to drive is honestly pretty damn easy...

I Never know until I open the door to the garage ... I just allow my "needs" to dictate which car I hop into..

With 5 Corvettes and a 68 SS 396 Chevelle I usually can cover almost any "need".. and BOY am I ever in "need"
