Jim,
I'm afraid to look in my spare tire tray. I've had the boarder patrol dogs check the car on several occasions. So, nothing funny in there. It is not like I'll be jacking up my car - at night - in the rain - just to change a tire.
That is why I have AAA. Also, the full sized wheel and tire won't fit back inside the spare carrier. So, am I to put the flat tire and wheel inside the car? That is just a rhetorical question ;)

I see, say da blind man!
That's pretty weird...the tub being that close to the rear valance like that. Something stinks in Denmark...
I don't think it would hurt anything to gently tug the valance out of the way, or push the tub forward a bit. That valance is(or should be) bolted on, so you could maybe loosen a few of the bolts for more clearance.
Are the two front bolts that hold the tub up bent or something?

The sun's been out for a few days so I went to work on the tire tub. Strategic pulling and pushing got the tub down. Put the spare in and it clears the other parts of the car fine on its way up.
But... Can you guys see the spare from the rear of your cars? I don't remember that on others I've seen. How big a spare goes in there? Looks like it should handle a full-size? I can see mine from the back, doesn't seem right. I think I'm gonna have to remove the whole thing to find out whats going on....

The tub hangs about as low as anything under there, so it is visible. You can get a full size wheel and tire in there, at least factory sized tires.
