Don't really have a nickname for mine, but the wife calls it a "babe magnent" and always times me when I take it out, especially when I take it out with the T-Tops off. And she is probably right, although I am definetly not a young man anymore, it seems to get its share of young and old alike wanting to take a ride in it. It is a shame that it's not me they want to ride with, but just likes the sexy looks of the car. 1972 454.

An "S" in the VIN means the car was assembled at the old St. Louis plant...long obsolete and known for quality control issues. In '81 some were beginning to be assembled at the new and modern Bowling Green plant...better quality control, better paint techniques. These cars have a "5" in the VIN in place of the "S". Prior to that changeover, all Corvettes had been assembled in St. Louis.

Frank...

Your VIN 1Z37W2S503820 tells me it a '72 Corvette coupe, St. Louis built (all were then), equipped with the 270hp 454 engine. It was the 3820th vehicle assembled for the model year, and assembled sometime during October of '71.

Any other information would come from the casting numbers from the block, heads, etc. The trim tag on the driver's dor jamb would give interior and paint information as well.

Vette(s): 1979 Red L-48 Corvette with Doeskin interior, 3-speed automatic, 3.55 rear; 1986 L-98 Coupe, 4+3 Manual - Satin Black and Purple (SCCA TT/Hillclimb Car); 1993 White LT-1 Coupe, Black Interior, 6-speed
Mine was a recent birthday gift, purchased off of ebay, by my wife (Did I say I loved her?). Always wanted a Corvette and this is my first. We call it "bonus check" as she used an annual bonus check to pay for it. It is a 79 red L-48.

However, money pit is another correct name. I have found that there are lots of Corvette parts available, it just takes money. Have spent about 500 bucks in just a couple of weeks taking care of little stuff! |cheers|

C3: 1979 Corvette Coupe, Auto, L-48, Red/Doeskin (my wife's fave);
C4s: 1986 C4 coupe (SCCA road race car), satin black, 4+3, Z51 package, L-98;  & 1993 C4 coupe, white, 6-speed, LT-1.

Well, mine was a gift from my wife after racing the Silver State Classic. We named her "Carlene" or "The B..ch in the garage" depending on the day.

She will never hit 170 mph like my fathers C5, but lets park them next to each other at a vette gathering and see which gets more interest! |thumb|
