Its a driver and back on the road!
I have a jest ion concerning the correct paint for the rear window trim. I have a 1978 with the front windshield trim black.the rear windshield is chrome. I believe this is the correct paint for the 1978. I beliv the 1979 has black trim on both the front and rear window frame could someone confirm this for me?

Los any hint on what to do or not to do on finding the right person to pint the corvette. I guess I have herd some stories about fiberglass body Corvette bad paint jobs. How and who do you find someone qualified to do the job.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
No help really but just an opinion. If it is a driver as mine is even though it is a numbers matching 82CE it is my my main driver when running. I have a 4 runner when it is not running.
GM paint jobs have always been bad when compared to other unmentionable American car companies. Almost anyone above Earl Scheib will give you a better paint job than factory. Note I said better paint job not better paint. Today's paints leave a lot to be desired at least here in California. Even good old Earl if you do not choose the bottom level paint job will be better than GM provided off the factory floor.
I know someone will disagree of course so just consider this my opinion.
Now that the lead in is done. I would look for someone that has painted fiberglass. As soon as they told me I needed to spend at least $4000 dollars I would walk away. In San Diego you can get great driver paint jobs looks perfect at 5 yards starting around $2500 with very minor repairs. I have seen a 82CE with the fader painted on for $3000. No orange peel. I need a little more repairs so I'm expecting to add about $1000 to that.
Check with a local hot rod club. Check with more than one guy. This includes my opinion. I have seen some $8000 and up paint jobs that will blow you away but I sure would not park it in a parking lot.
Mark, I have the 79 in your color but you are correct! The 78 has polished rear window trim while 79- 82 have the satin black. All have the black windshield trim. I don't know haw close you are to Dundalk, MD, but that is where the guy that painted mine is. It is a regular Corvette shop doing all facets of Corvette repairs and improvements!

Thanks for the info, I apologize for my spelling I intened to check it but forgot and hit post first. No excuse but on the Ipad I sometimes don,t display what I thought I tapped on. Sorry....

The wife's '78 2 tone has the split design, black inner and chrome outer trim. Our other '78 is all chrome.
It's an absolute must, to have your vette painted by someone who knows all about fiberglass. I've had 2 vettes painted with the best of materials by a pro painter (20 yrs.) and though he claimed to be familiar with fiberglass, any flaws in the fiberglass show up like cracks where it's been stressed the painter just said, "I don't do miracles". He's a good friend and I didn't pay anywhere near full price, we traded for the labor, though the materials alone were $1000. A couple of years later, both cars have a quarter size blister near the nose. They're just drivers, but I'm still disappointed.
