Well I've had further discussions with the body shop & we seem to have reached an agreement on a better price. Here are some pics that I took of Sassi the last time I was there. I'll try to relate what I was told, but if I leave something out or it seems like I don't know what I'm talking about someone please feel free to step in & correct me.
O.k. well let's see... I went to the shop & the owner & I spent a couple hours going over the car from top to bottom. He scraped some of the primer off & buffed a few areas to see what had been done to the car & if the treatments were uniform. Here's what it looks like.
Here is a close up of the front end. The owner , (Mark), wondered as to whether the primer had been applied to a properly prepared surface or not. He took a razor blade & was able to scrape up a good bit of primer. He said that the layer underneath hadn't been prepped correctly.
The yellow that you can see is a sealer, good quality from what Mark told me. He said that if the entire car had been prepped that way that his work would be less... Here's a close up of the area on the hood.
He did some more scraping on the rear deck as well...
Here's a close up of the area right near the rear bumper. Apparently Sassi was once painted white & was later repainted metallic red. Mark said that ideally everything should've been stripped off, but that because they used a good sealer that there was little chance of the other colors reasserting themselves.
This area on the left rear panel had some black marks on it that I thought were unusual. Mark explained why they are there but I can't remember what he told me. If anybody knows please jump in.
The inside of the left A pillar has some rust that needs to be taken care of too...
Another area of concern is where the rocker panels were located before the sidepipes were placed. As you can see remounting the panels will be almost impossible. The bolts for the sidepipes are sticking out too far & the screws that once held them in place were cut off & left in the holes. Mark said he had some ideas to deal with this situation. picture #1 picture #2
Mark said that Sassi would need to be stripped down to the sealer, blocked & prepped. The front end needs to be re-attached & I've already bought new hardware for that. The rear end was attached improperly & over time will cause the urethane on the edge of the back deck to buckle. It has to be removed & the urethane has to be filled in & re-drilled. Then the proper hardware has to secure the rear end.
Well that's where we're at right now. The next step is to come up with the downpayment to begin work. The estimated time of completion is three months.
