I'm putting a road  kit together,a few small tools and I want to put a spare belt in it.The problem I am running into I give the parts store the belt number out of the catalog and these Micky's D dropouts around here are clueless ....dose anyone know a part number so can find the belt so I will have a spare.I don't have A/C so it only one belt is what I need.

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
I hazard a guess that your local Chevy dealership would be able to find a part number for you or be able to tell you the correct belt size.  That being said, ANY parts house should have a belt catalog that ANYONE (even the Micky's D dropouts) would be able to read.

To be sure you can take a piece of string and wrap it around the belt..that you can use to measure the one you have now..tie a knot in it at the and that will tell you the stretched length you need..get a 1/4 inch shorter..then eat the happy meal and have a good ...movement!!!

Rick,

Try Gates Belts for a good start. Armed with a few part numbers and your piece of string I think you will get results that even Ronald McDonald would be proud of....

Rick, I just changed all my belts yesterday, I bought them last Sept. and had planned to change them at Lukes BBQ but that's another storyConfused.
First on my 1980 I needed a 15mm wrench for all the bolts and a 16mm for the top bolt on the Air compressor. So here 8 months later the alt belt was at least an inch short. That belt was in need of repair as it was shreading. Of course the PS, AP, and Comp belts have to come off firstConfused.
Alt belt went on perfect, compressor belt....shortOuch but old one was in good shape. PS and AP no problem.
GM said they had two style pulleys and up pulley and a down pulley so two different sizes.
I would see if you can read the number on the original belt, have them cross reference it and also have them tell you the lenght, then match it.

Gents, when it comes to buying belts, usually the last 2 numbers of the part number are the diameter if the belt. Eg - 43343 = a 43 inch belt. You can ask any parts guy to give you a 43344 and fer sure, you'll get the similar belt 1"longer.Wink

Just in case ya want to exchange those short ones and step up the belt size ebo!! Big smile

 I'm working on the '81 right now and saw the alt. belt as  a 53" and the power steering belt as a 36". I do have a/c but thet don't run off the same pulley wheels anyway. All my vettes have similarly sized belts, though they seem to vary within an inch.
