Ok C3ers out there....check out theses rumors and fixes I've been listening too
at the local car shows, cruz-ins etc.............
1. I've been told by vette owners that (in the day) you can make
your vette sound louder than stock by drilling holes in the underside
of the mufflers.........................sounds a bit crazy but I think I do
remember some guys in high school did the same on their hot cars....???
2. Was also told that some auto shops like AutoZone and Advance sell
"helper spring kits" that will extend the life of and and some strength
and rigidity to the rear leaf spring...................????
For real guys....is the any thruth to these claims or are they just pulling
my leg? My 78 L48 is the first vette I've ever owned, so perhaps anything
is possible.

Drilling holes in the mufflers will definitely make them louder, but will not do anything for making any more power. Just makes you way more noticeable to the local constabulary...
The "helper spring kits" are available, but none of them will work on Corvette rear suspensions...they are designed for pick-ups with rear leaf springs.
Sounds like some folks are just either pulllin your leg, or they really believe in old wives tales...

Every day I learn I know less than I thought I did.
Every time something is made idiot proof. The world produces a better idiot!
Sure ya can make yer muffs louder by drillin holes in em. Same effect you would get if ya put some old rusty ones on there with a buch-o rust holes in it.
As far as helper kits for Vette leaf spring, never heard of it.

Holes in the muffler and helper spring kits belong on a teenagers Ford Pinto. If you own a Corvette then you belong to a higher class of sports car ownership and should treat your car as such.
If you are looking for a different sound for the exhaust then that requires a system designed for the car. Holes aren't going to do it for you.
Problems with the spring?? Replace it with a spring designed for the car or replace the suspension with a custom kit. These are critical component's on the car so don't skimp on them.
This is not a car to do cheap things to. Do it right the first time so you won't have to do it a second time. There are a lot of "BUBBA" stories out there.
Lots of people can help guide you on this site. Just ask. A happy car is a happy owner.

If you want yer Vette louder then buy some twin tip mufflers. As for the helper spring this is what you are referring to and it will not fit under a Vette.
