Topic: Safety First... a reminder
in Forum: C3 General Discussion
OK guys and gals, just a little safety reminder here to all of my corvette family at C3VR. This weekend the corvette community here in NC lost a long time corvette enthusiast so I want to pass his story along to everyone as a reminder. Van Johnson, a retired Gastonia NC firefighter lost his life this weekend while working on his beloved 65 corvette roadster. Van was a cruise-in regular in the area and had a beautiful burgundy 65 sb roadster that was built to the gills. I don’t know all of the details but he was working under the car when it fell on top of him, he died later in an area hospital. Van was not a novice but was an experienced mechanic and had been under that car many times. Exactly how he had it up in the air I don’t know at present but something allowed it to fall atop him. Let’s all use this as a reminder to double check our jack stands, lift safety locks or whatever you use to get under your car to make sure that it cant fall unexpectedly and NEVER NEVER NEVER get under a car that is supported only by a jack!!

There is no substitute for low end torque!
This is a horrible thing to read today, my thoughts and prays are with the family. Reading the above post that the wife watched this is all the more horrifying.
With this in mind, perhaps we should make note of our own precautions as to help others in the future. Or perhaps start a new thread for safety tips while under the car, so this thread stays with respect and not speculation.
