O.K. gang, got one for 'ya. Several months ago Corvette guru Noland Adams posted an article in, I believe, Corvette Enthusiast magazine wherein he said that he saw the first ever 77 corvette exit the St. Louis plant with cruise control. Well, it dawned on me that my 76 has what appears to be factory installed cruise control ,which was disconnected via various maintenance procedures some time ago. I know that some late build 76's came with equipment normally associated with the 77 model year, but cruise control?? Does anybody out there have cc in their 76??? Unfortunately I have yet to find the build sheet, wasn't on the gas tank when I replaced it a few years ago. Might be in some black hole behind the dash or crammed in the frame, who knows. Anyway, I'm real curious about this and would love to hear some of your thoughts..
Thanks.

Perhaps what Cousin Noland was saying was he saw the first '77 with cc...
I don't have any info here, but it's possible some '76 cars were retrofitted with cc at the dealer IF it wasn't available on the '76 cars from St. Louie...

Joel,
What Noland said, for clarification, was that this 77 was the first Corvette ever with cruise control. That's why it piqued my morbid curiosity. I'm glad you caught the posssibility, as I did after I sent the post..

Mkapp,
There is an integral button on the turn signal. As I recall, there are (2) speedo cables connecting the transducer. Quite awhile ago, while up on a rack, my tech made a comment that my cruise control had been disconnected. Not knowing any better, I didn't pay much attention to the issue at that time. The small handle at the end of the stalk also read "cruise" in white letters but has since been painted over by, I believe, MEEEE along time ago. I'll try to get some pix up asap.. Thanks!
Black Book doesn't show CC as an option in 76, but does show option K30 Speed Control for 1977.
Could it have been a dealer installed option?
Or a third party installation?
I had CC added to my '78 Chevy van by a local company.
Wait a minute, the integral button is on the end of the tilt stalk, not the turn signal lever. Based on my vin, it appears the car was built toward the end of February, very early March of 76..
That don't sound right! What you may have is an aftermarket, or dealer installed CC. The factory set-up did have the cruize controls in the t-signal lever.

I think the best thing for me to do is attempt to locate the original owner and/or the build sheet. It's a shame that mid-70's cars factory data seems to be lost to the ages. Many thanks to you learned folks for sharing your input. This is a GREAT forum!!. I'll keep you updated as I'm able (hopefully) to gather up some definitive info. re: this issue.. Thanks again..
