Vette(s): '74 Coupe w/ '95 suspension, steering, brakes, wheels, ZF 6-speed w/ Hurst billet shifter, '69 sidepipes, C5 paint "Light Carmine Red Metallic", QA1 billet aluminum coil-over 12 position adjustable shocks, Griffin radiator w/ twin SPAL electric fans
I have '69 side pipes and covers on my '74. They look great; however I drive the car and I am concerned about scratches and marks on the covers... especially at the front.
I am looking for some type of protectors for the front area (similar to those available for mid-year side pipe covers... they are clear plastic and snap into position.
Anyone seen anything?
Thanx!

I bought a set of clear plastic " mud flaps " from either Ecklers or Mid America and they seem to be working very well to protect the front piece of the cover.

Thanx for the reply!
I may end up going that way for lack of anything else. The flaps will require some modifications to my fender edges as the edges are currently abit thick and short. I know what I need to do... I would just prefer the quards like the mid-year's so I don't have to take the flaps on and off for shows.
I will keep looking for now and if I don't come up with something by winter I will probably go with the flaps.
Thanx again!

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

I believe you are talking about front fender mudflaps, aren't you. My son did something with his Saleen that I had never seen before. Instead of drilling holes to screw the flaps on, he used heavy spring paper clips to secure the flap to the fender edge. They work great, and you don't put holes in the fenders. Also easy to remove and replace. They hold good too. He has never lost ond, even at the drag strip, at 118 mph. works on back fender too...

I very much appreciate the suggestion to attach flaps with paper clamps. I have seen this done and I agree that it works well.
I am to NOT USE THE FLAPS. They make clear plastic covers that snap on to the side pipe cover itself for '65-'67. I am looking for something similar to that for the '69 covers.
I'll keep looking but may end up with the flaps at the end of the day.
Thank you.

The clear plastic flaps that I bought require no modifications right out of the box. The plastic itself is drilled and they come with spring clips DESIGNED for them. The clip just slips over the fender ( front and rear ). When you get to the show, just slip them off. When you leave, just slip them back on. Pretty much a no brainer.

I very much appreciate the dialogue on this. I actually have a set of those flaps and the modification that I need to use them is to the fender egdes (too thick and short) not to the flaps.
I am going to keep looking for some clear plastic covers for the side pipe covers. If I don't come up with anything I will have to fabricate a edge on my fender to accept the flaps.
G'day
