I went down to Baton Rouge last week with a team to help a pastor build a facility which will be used to integrate the evacuees from Katrina back in to the work force. We had a free day so we went into New Orleans where one of the levies broke and this is what I found.

We then went to Waveland where the eye came ashore.

It was amazing how much destruction there was and the vastness of it.

Well, I thought,"The first two don't look so bad..." The third one makes me eyeballs water. So sad...

I am sure the first one was under water. It was only 100 ft from where the levy broke. Homes were pushed off the foundations just next door to this home. The water level was up to the eves on near by homes. But it looks like it can be salvaged.

That's really a bummer!!
But ... it does look like the Shark may well be salvagable - which is a good thing. Hope they don't just throw it away.

Makes me cry seeing that chromie messed up. I'm too tender hearted when it comes to seeing a broken C3...Ouch! 2 of them did look salvagable!

I was watching a short clip the other day and as the camera panned some damaged area it passed by a 58 or 59, it was upside down and crushed.

Ouch!  Unfortunately, that's what happens when you build a home 20 feet below sea level near a large body of water in a hurricane-prone area.  Flooding and drainage is always taken into account when I look for a new home as flood insurance is expensive.  Hope those folks don't rebuild below sea level again.  I used to get very frustrated with the rich people in Florida who built their homes right on the beach, then wanted the taxpayers to bail them out financially when their property was destroyed by a hurricane.
