I guess it's not really GM's fault.I remember waiting for the C4 to come out and I must admit I was really let down. The C3 was such a beautiful design that they just couldn't top it.It's kinda like say a new rock band hits the charts with an album that is just over the top.Evey song just kicks butt. The whole world is buying the album, the band playes to sold out concerts around the world.Everybody can't wait until the new album comes out and man what a dissapointment.A special design comes along once in a while that just can't be bettered.GM did the best they could but how do you follow up on something like that.I still love all Vettes don't get me wrong and the new C6 is something that I can deal with.Kind of OT but where are the hood scoops on the new Mustang?

As far as I am concerned, the C3s are the best design of all the Vettes,A friend of mine bought his C4,about a year before I bought my 78,the first time he saw mine,he said ,now thats what he wanted but could'nt find one at the time.I always wanted a SHARK.I am not a ford man at all,but I do like what Ford did with the new mustang.I have been waiting for the GENERAL too come back with an up-dated version of the 57 Chevy,we can only hope

The c3 is the best body design of them all in our opinion here, obviously. It's a head turner more than than the c4's,c5's, and even the c6. I agree the c6 is the best to come out since the c3. My second favorite is the c2 63 split window. I drooled all over it when a friend of my older brother drove up in one when we were still in our teens!

yeah.. pearl jam personifies that perfectly.. if they had quite with "ten" they would have been one the greatest bands ever.. 13 years later and they still only have one good album.. !!
but as for c3 body style..
obviously i have an appreciation for the c3.. I grant you it is much better than the c4,5,6 in style..
but my favorite is the 67 convertible and the 57... all things being equal id take either one before any c3..
when i finish mine im probably going to sell it and look for a 67 l-88 in need of a lot of TLC
I'll be honest here, when I began searching for my Vette, I really wanted a mid-year convertible. Thanks to Barrett-Jackson, these cars (even some projects) were outside of my reach.
Especially on a cop's salary.
This doesn't mean that I settled when I bought my '68, because these cars are beautiful!!! I love the chrome bumper years, especially the curves of it's porfile and how the glass was curved up at the rear like a spolier. Of these '68 to '72 years, I decided that I had to have a '68 or '69. I preferred the "shark" gills as opppsed to the "egg-crates."
I also agree with many others here that the C3's are next to enjoy some bumps upward in value.
I also liked the '80-'82 years when they put a spoiler on the back & redesigned the front fenders and grilles. I didn't go this way because I wanted a purely mechanical car with no electronics and such.
This is just my preference & I don't mean to offend anyone here. Life is a series of choices, and we all own the model year that we like. The coolest thing about all of the C3's is how recognizable they are.
And no matter how much I love my '68, I really hate those door buttons. I'm also a little bummed out that the Stingray emblem was left off for this year.
That's just my 2.5 cents,
Anthony

Vette(s): #'s matching hugger orange '77. flowmasters rebuilt eng & trans
My favorite thing about the earlier C3's is the flat back window and the Fiberglass tunnel that follws down to the flat deck. man that is just the coolest thing going. I find that almost all of the pics I take are from the rear corners to display that. Funny the design team never played around with that again.
The other thing I could not get over is what you see out in front of you when you sit in the drivers seat of a C3 for the first time. Man that is the most unique expeience. Anyway we are all lucky that we own certainly one of the most legendary and uniquely designed cars in US automotive history

One word comes to mind...curves. No other car on the road even comes close to the style and shape of the Shark bodied Vettes. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Vette guy and to me each generation has something cool going for it, but the C3 will always be at the top of my list.

I really agree with zgator about the C3 body style that is very hard to top off. My 79 is parked in the left side of my garage for winter, and every morning when I leave for work, every night when I'm back from work, and even when I have to go in the garage for whatever reason, every time, I lay my eyes on this beauty and I say to myself "What a wonderful car !" (on the air of What a Wonderful World). Sometimes, I even sit in the garage and look at the C3 for 10 minutes - a real feast for the eyes.
