I came across this on ebay. Its supposed to be a 69 427/435.. i have NEVER heard of one with ps/pb... also this one has the radiator overflow. I know there are much more experienced people on this board that could help me identify this as i am considering bidding.

get him to take a picture of the engine code/engine VIN
also if he can get to it.. the transmission vin
you want to make sure some previous owner didnt take an L-36 and slap a tripower setup on it and replace the engine code tag.

I have an all matching and correct '69 L71 and while it doesn't have power steering, it does have power brakes and the aluminum expansion tank for the radiator. According to the Fact Book of the 1969-1972 Stingray, power brakes were available and the aluminum expansion tank "was used with all 427 engines."

okay.. ive looked into this a little and from what I can find it looks like they all had the tank.
supposedly all non-L88 427 used the same radiator.
the L88 had a better one.. but both the L88 and non-L88 radiator lack a fill cap, and therefore would need an expansion tank.
I have emailed dewitts and asked him about it since he manufactures/sells these licensed gm restoration parts.
68's didnt seem to have them unless they were L88

daveb12 said: OOps! sorry for the mis-info. I assumed 68 and 69 L-71 were basically the same. In 68 you could not get power steering because of the high rpm. I'll have to check on 69's |
I dont have dewitts answer yet...
They may tell me something entirely different...
I found conflicting sources... but most sources seem to indicate what I said above..
Something fishy ? If anyone is going to bid or buy this 69, throw in a contingency, "Pay in full after inspection and verified the car is total original".
Small price to pay a dude that knows the skinny on these 427/435 HP Vettes. I am amazed that it has not surfaced in all these years. In 1989 and 1990, plus other years, the 427/435 HP Vettes were bringing more money then today.
Now the writer of the ad says that they do not understand why the previous owner painted the car, that it is a mystery to them. Hmmmmm....... Fishy ? That kind of statement is to make the sellers look like they want you to be the expert. Good ol' country boy pat on back warm and fuzzy BS.
You know, you can throw a fish on the bank of the river, and it will shine like hell, but it will still stink.
Looking at Vette mag of May '04, the 69 coupe with the 427/435 HP, L71,4 spd. #1 -$55,250.00. #2 - $47,250.00
#3 - $37,500.00. #4 - $31,000.00. #5 - $24,000.00.
Corvette Mike would put a price of $75,000.00 on that car.
As far as the power options, the guy next door to our house has a 69 - 427/390HP roadster. No power steering, no power brakes, no air. His wife can't push the clutch in, so only he drives it.
Anyone going to pay that kind of dough for that E-Bay car, can afford to have an NCRS inspector look at it, and give him some serious money before you part with your hard earned money.
The tale of the tape would be: Start asking for documentation, numbers, pictures, etc., etc. If the dude is serious and true, then he will not have any problem handing it over.
It should go to a Kruse auction, where the real money is.
That is my two cents, and I could be wrong in my assumption.

OK, I was definitely wrong about the expansion tank, 68 did not use one, I read the ad and he is mentioning an M-22 tranny, they were only available on L-88. I couldn't find where power steering was not available, K-66 transistor ignition and posi were required.
I'd take the seller up on the inspection offer, at 17 and some change, the reserve isn't met, I'd be curious to know what that is.
