Well, I was curious about how fast we have actually driven our vettes. Everyone knows it's illegal and dangerous but don't yinz guys want to stomp on it occassionally? The other day I had the opportunity to see what she had...
On a long, slightly uphill hiway, she max'd out at 4600rpm. I calculated that to be around 110-113 mph (my speedo is not accurate). It appeared that's all she had. I guess I was expecting a little more than this. The 76 has some minor modifications, true duals, weiand intake, Demon carb. What about yinz guys. What top speed have been reached ???

I never tried to see how fast mine will go, but with 4.11 gears I doubt it it has that much top end, though it has dig enough to pull tree stumps.
The previous owner had an L88 cam installed and according to the spec card for the cam, it's power band is 4400-7000 rpm's. I will say once it passes 4000 rpm's you suddenly feel a real kick in the pants when the engine really starts breathing.

I want to take the vette out to the track some day to see what it will do. Did take a performance driving class with the BMW and had it up to about 120 on the straight section of the track.
While on a tour with a corvette club a few weeks ago I had the miss fortune of watching a C3 pass me and then leave the roadway at a high rate of speed. The vette in front of me started to pull out for a pass as this C3 came up on him. I expected to see fatalities but luckily there were only a few bumps and bruises. Scared the day lights out of me
. Hope I never see any thing like this again. Just reinforces driving fast must be done in a controlled environment like on a track.

Your not Suposed to Exceed You Class by more than 10 MPH. But I never Herd anything about it maybe cause I DNF'd. I broke a $5 fan Belt. Oh by the way She still had a Lot left in Her...

Had a '70 in 1981. Friend of mine had a garage in Petaluma, Ca., rebuilt the engine from stock to 30 over, mahle pistons and rings, a 268 cam and Holly 650 double pumper. That's all I can remember other than going down Hwy 101 at 146 mph and still climbing, but my tires weren't that good so I backed out. Still look at the pictures and wish I'd never sold it. Took 21 yrs to get another. Young and dumb...

I have had my wifes stroker to 100+, with plenty of breathing room left. 430 HP, 3.08 rear, it has a VERY high top end. We will both be drag racing it, and I will AutoX it over Memorial Day Weekend at Superbash here in Tucson. It won't get out of the hole fast, but once it reaches about 40mph WATCH OUT!

With the new GM crate, L82 intake, side pipes for easier breathing, MSD Streetfire ignition and completely rebuilt Q-Jet, I can get to 80mph, honest officer, that has to be true as that is all that is on the Speedo!
I figure, based on the math between lollypops on the hwy, that I was around 118 and still had plenty left. I was just over 4grand on the tach.
I can't wait to see the 700R4 does for her.
