There's a clip on the back of the gauge which holds the speedo and tach cable attached. It needs to be pushed towards the back of the gauge to get the cable to release. If the tach cable is too long and you install it, it can bind. You want a moly lubricant for the cables. They often do NOT come pre-lubed, though some suppliers might send them that way. Paragon does not. I had my tach cable restored at Tony's Corvette. They made a new core for it. Make sure the ends arent' broken off or worn. Sorry I can't give any more specifics on the speedo cable. If it's making noise, it's time to deal with it though. You might get away with just pulling the core, cleaning & relubricating it. ~Juliet

Juliet is correct, there's a clip which holds the end of the cable. It helps if you have another person to pull the cable (under the hood-thru the fire wall) while you use a staight screw driver to push on the clip. I was unable to push on the clip and tug at the cable at the same time. A mechanic friend told me that if the cable is making noise, the best thing to do is replace it; the cable housing and/or the cable itself can be bad. If you want to pull the cable out of the housing, you still have to remove it from the speedo; the cable only comes out one end and its not the end which connects to the tranny |ohwell|
