I have a 1978 25 Silver Anniversary, L82 4 speed, and am having
trouble with the speedometer and tack. The speedometer will only
register from 0 to 52 mph. The mileage part works and is fairly
close, because I've checked it against mile markers. The trip
meter doesn't work at all. The tack is stuck on 2500 rpm. Has
anyone had this problem, know where to have them repaired, or
know approximately what it will cost to have them repaired? Also
I would like to keep the original speedometer sinse it has the
actual mileage of my car. One other thing that's interesting,
my vet has the original American GM Vin number attached to it
behind the windshield, but it also has another plate located
on the fire wall, with the same Vin number, but all of the
wording on this plate is in German.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

I am going to assume that your tach is the same tach they used the next year to build my 79. If so, I am going to suggest that something on the circuit board has fried. If you take the tach out and look on the board I'm sure you'll see right away whether something has been burned out. You can buy replacement boards through any of the major Corvette suppliers, but I found Corvette Central to be the best price (I think I paid $60.00 about 6-8 months ago). Real EZ replacement.
As for your speedometer, I'm not sure what's wrong. But, check the same sources for the speedometer repair as you do for the tach repair.
