Vette(s): 1972 LT-1 convertible, 4speed, Sunflower Yellow
Thanks for the hearty welcome folks. I am actually getting the '72 this weekend, buying it from my best friend's father. I have been lusting for this car since I was 16 years old, and now he is giving me the chance to make it my own. Feeling like a pretty lucky guy right now.

I need some help with something though. This may be a newbie question, and I will apologize in advance for my ignorance....

I want to find out how many 72 LT-1 convertibles with 4 speeds were originally built. Have been all over the net, and while I can find out how many convertibles (6508), LT-1s (1741) and M-21 4 speed (1638,) I can't seem to find out how many had all three.... Is there a database out there that I can't seem to find? Or am I asking too much?

Please point me in the right direction. My buddy and I are going to start working on the car this Friday, and I intend to do a series of before and after pics. She hasn't been on the road more then 5 times since 2001......!

Thanks! Chad

Welcome Chad!  Glad you found us here and that you're feeling welcome.  Don't worry about "newbie" questions.  We've all had 'em and there's no "dumb" questions here.

However, we're not allowed to answer anything until we SEE PICTURES!!!  Just kidding

Your question has been asked before, and unfortunately, there isn't a complete listing that shows all of the options to be able to make the determination as to know that your car is "1 of XXX."

Now, if we can only get EVERY SINGLE C3 registered on the registry here on this site, we might get the information, but alas, we're not there.  However, while I'm not an expert on '72s or LT-1s, I would say that your car certainly sounds like it's in fairly limited company.  Great combination of options!  And with the yellow color, I'll bet that just adds to the rarity.

Sorry you didn't get the answer you wanted, but keep asking the questions.  There are folks on here that know well more than me on 72s and LT-1s, so maybe there is more info than I'm aware of.  Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS on getting your dream car!  Enjoy the site!  Check out the Mid-West gathering coming up later this month in Kokomo, IN (great chance for a nice road trip in your roadster) under the C3VR Events Forum.

Marshall is right....there's no records that indicate how many specific "combinations" were built. Research, and judging events can help narrow down the figures, but a definitive answer will probably never be known.
If your '72, LT1, 4spd car has A/C, then that combo has been researched, and the total is known...it ain't very many. Only 240 '72 LT1s had air to start with.

If I remember right, somewhere I read that there wasn't any number breakdown for convertable or coupe for LT-1 AC cars, just the total,  all LT-1's only came with 4-speeds.anips2009-04-01 12:15:16

Joel - I have a question - Why did I think that LT-1's could not have air?  I thought they rev'ed to hi and GM thought the belts would fly off.  Am I mistaken?

AC only came on the 72 model the last year of the original LT1,  you can add 10K to the value on the 72 just for the AC option,  KeBo is right, GM changed there mind in 72.

FYI, I was scouting around for something else, and found a Sunfire Yellow Convertible LT-1 w/A/C for sale on the site of a well known Corvette Restorer.  I don't know if yours is in this kind of condition (sorry, no pics), but you can see what he's selling it for.

As I thought of it, you might want to give Al (Wagner) a call.  He's a former Engineer for GM (on the Corvette, of course) and has become somewhat of a LT-1 expert, restoring a large number of them.  He might be able to give you some info.  Tell him the C3VR group sent you!
