Happy Holidays guys!!!! I need some help on which adhessive to use. I'm in the process of putting new insulation under my hood.,to try and save the paint job.now, can anyone HELP me in choosing a glue, (adhesive) that I could purchase rather easily,to stick the mounting pins to the under-side of the hood that will stand up to the HEAT? Thanks- Freddie

Shady,
How come you are putting insulation under the hood?
80-82's never came with it. I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything. I don't know off hand what type of adhesive to use. But I'm sure you'll get an answer here soon. Or you can ask a local paint/auto body supply store.

As Sarge mentioned you might just ask someone at a local paint and body shop.
I had to replace one of my pins and I used marine adhesive (for fiberglass). I had some available from my boat and I figured if it would hold my boat together that it would hold the pin to the hood.

How ya doin Sarge? Sarge why is it that the 80-82 vettes are the only ones that don't have insulation. My reason for asking is I replaced my hood with a Big Block hood (looks great by the way),And had the whole front end repainted, and just thought the extra protection wouldn't hurt. Thanks for your reply Sarge81.....Freddie

Next time after driving your Vette, open the hood, and feel the bottom of the surface. Hot? Now, imagine what that heat is going to do to most any type of adhesive.
You can buy the pins and washers from one of the suppliers, epoxy them to the bottom of the hood area you want to insulate, cut your insulation material to fit the pins, or vice-versa, press up in cavity, apply washers, and you have insulation mounted.
I guess another way to look at this, is if you have a lot of space under there with the big block hood, then heat is probably not a problem. Looks like it is going to be cooler anyway. So why need the insulation?
My two cents.

That's a good question. The only thing I can figure is that the hood was redesigned for those years. (mainly weight savings) The vette was put on a serious diet in '80. lol. They don't have a lot of structual support bonded to the underside of the hood as opposed to the '73-'79 hoods. Therefore there in really no place to drill holes for the push pins that hold the insulation in place.
I didn't know that '68-'69 didn't have it either. Learned somthing new today.
When you get a chance, can you post some pics of your car? I'd like to see how that hood looks on your car.

I am not sy=ure but I think I read somewhere that the insulation was put there to reduce road noise from the engine compartment.

My 70 had no insulation on the factory small block, base hood. My 79 had insulation under the hood. Wonder what years had the under hood insulation?
