Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Got a little story to till you guys about what happened to
me this 4th of July.
I took my wife's car to Home Depot yesterday to pick up a
Epiphyllum (a type of plant). Parked in
front of a good looking blue C6. There
was this little old lady walking in the direction of the Corvette and I watched
with surprise as she opened the passenger side. I'm thinking that it was nice for her son to
take his mother to the store. I got out
an told her that was a good looking Blue Corvette and she thanked me, put some
stuff in and then when back into the store.
As I walked up to pay for my wife's plan she was in front of
me with a charcoal barbeque pit in her cart.
Now I'm thinking her son is going to be a little less pleased. I told her it would be interesting to see how
she was going to get that barbeque into that Corvette. The store clerk took the hint and called for
a yard boy to help her. I'm wondering
where she is going to sit with that barbeque I figured I would put it in my car
and take it home for her and her son if needed.
I got out there and it was in the passenger seat and I
realized this little old lady was going to get into the divers seat.
I had to find out more so I asked her. How did you come to own a Corvette. She laughed a little when she was growing up
she lived in Imperial Valley and her and her brothers build and raced
cars. She always loved fast cars. But marriage raising a family and taking care
of her husband until he passed had seen to it she never had one until her oldest
son told her "Mom why don't you do something for yourself, you always wanted a fast car. " She chuckled a little and told me he said
"You are old and will not live that much longer". So she said she went out and purchased her a
new corvette in 2006. She told me "I'm 80 years old and still haven't
gotten any ticket but this car runs best over 80". I
mentioned that the cop that stops her is going to want to know who's car it
is. She giggled and said everyone asked
that question or ask me how often my son lets me drive his car.
Never to old to own a Corvette. I'm thinking about the car sales man that
went up to a little old Black lady looking over Corvettes in the sales
yard. What a tail he must have told
about that sale.
O yes she got the car onto the street waved and punched
it, It is fast.

Great story!
I joined our local Corvette club a couple of years ago, expecting it to be full of "car guys" that not only loved Corvettes, but wrenched on them on weekends. What I found was a club dominated by women in their 60's and 70's interested in buying the latest, greatest Corvette and whatever stick-on accessory is made for them. They are great people, just not what I expected to be behind the wheel of the only American sports car made.
I knew there were grease-under-the-fingernail, wrench-bangers for these cars out there. And I'm glad I found them on this board.
Happy Fourth, guys.

Yes she reminded me of the Beach Boys "little old lady from Pasadena". Cute as a bug little unsteady on her feet but bright and loved powerful cars.
Great story, thank you for sharing it.
There is no substitute for low end torque!
Great story Gil..! and I hate to correct you after all the good advise you gave me on oil & zinc but it was "Jan & Dean" that had the hit " Little old lady from Pasadena" , not the Beach Boys.

You officially qualify for the "Old Farts" ward. You are correct it was a Jan and Dean song (1964 I believe) but I can save some face by pointing out that the Beach Boys also did a recording of the Jan & Dean song.

I had a chance to see those two once did not take it. Big mistake.
But one Old Fart to another the Jan & Dean recording is the better version and the one I have on my MP3 player.
