When I rebuilt my 73 I started using synthetics everywhere. Keep in mind everything (and I mean virtually every mechanical part of the car) was replaced with new or rebuilt parts.
However, if you are just replacing fluids...
If you have used non-syns forever and are not replacing / installing new hardware I would recommend continuing with non-syns.

Rumor has it that synthetics are O.K. to use in older cars... however, if you decide to switch to synthetics don't ever go back to non-syns.
