Howdy again! With this trip coming up, doing some minor mods to the stock Vette. Now, I am doing away with the points, putting in a HEI dist. I know this will do away with my mechanical tach. Once I get back home, I am gonna keep the HEI, and am wondering about Tach options, got a few ???
1. To our Sponsors: Does anybody sell a electronic tach that looks like the original and fits into our original bezel?
2. Has anybody replaced the manual tach with an electronic, and how hard was it?
If those options are not avail, I will just install a small tach, but don't really like that option....
Thanks all! dave.

Dakota gauges makes a direct fit electric tach for c3's. /Sumitt racing sells a complete instrument kit which includes the tach. I don't know about individual gauges. It could be a start

I happened to be reading on the "other forum" last night (was researching distributors and the subject of tach drives was being discussed) that a '75-'77 electronic tach will mount up to the older cars. Maybe you could find one on e-bay. But I have no idea if the guy that posted that knew what he was talking about....
Dave,
I have a '75 tach in my '74 (74 was the last year of the cable driven tach). All you need is a hot 12v switched lead (you can tee off of the pink ignition wiring in the dash harness), a ground, and a single wire from the HEI distributor to the third lead. The tach will bolt right in.
Another option is to keep the stock tach, and buy an HEI distributor with the cable drive connection. Probably a LOT easier than pulling and swapping the old tach, if it's still working. Here's an eBay example, not that I'd buy a distributor from eBay!

Good luck. Darryl

The '75-7 tachs will fit in the dash, but then you need the wiring harness and stuff to make it work....

Unfortunately, I already got the HEI, the run is coming up fast and I wanted to have it ready for a trial run next weekend. I am thrilled to find out that the 75 tach will fit, the next thing on the agenda is to (finally) rewire the dash, so I will put in a new gauge set with it. That's the fun with these toys, they are never quite done, are they? Thanks to all, d.
