Well, I found what's left of my tank sticker today. There isn't much left.
I can make out that the color was Elkhart Green, which I already knew. I looked at an intact invoice online, to see what mine might have shown, but I'm missing most of the left side. I can see the "ion" of "transmission", the word "top" of "conv. top", the word "top" of "aux top", the word "radio", and the words "comfort & control". That's the preprinted info that's left. None of the printed descriptions are there. The entire right side where this information would be is intact, there's just no printing left. Does anyone know of a way to bring that back? Also, handwritten on this side is "37", and under that is "P2".
I also heard that someone found another copy on top of the radio, and that someone found another copy on top of tach cable behind the dash. Are there other spots to look?

Copies of build sheets have been found tucked in the wiring behind the speedo/tach, tucked in the wiring behind the center cluster, behind either kick panel, under the carpet in the rear storage area, tucked in the springs under a seat, and (at least one documented instance) folded between the rear spring and the spring mount.

I do not advocate pulling up the carpet in the rear to see if something might be there, but, if I was otherwise replacing carpet, I'd be on the lookout.
For the 68-78 cars, no paperwork from GM exists. For some of the 79-81 models, a copy of the dealer invoice may have been microfiched and might be available.
Good luck with the hunt.

Good info Mike. Thanks.
I have also heard of them being in the frame. Apparantly several copies travelled down the assembly line and were placed on the car haphazardly.
Mike- Being so close to the Museum, do you go to many events?

Depends on who's there and what's going on. My fiancee and I are not C5/C6 fans, so if the event for the weekend is a C5/C6 thing, we usually skip it. She has a nice '96 convertible, so we're apt to drop in on C4 events. We both own C3s.
I was at the museum for opening day way, way back.
Redwing has some nice pictures. His stickers are 73-up after the format changed to landscape. The 68-72 stickers are portrait format. What's neat are the missing upper left corners. The order copies (what we call build sheets) were seven pages with carbon between them. To burst out the carbons, the bundle was usually held by the upper left corner. Lots of tank stickers have the upper left corner missing where they were held and torn.

Did you come to the Classic Corvette Extravaganza two weeks ago?
It sounds like you used to work at the plant.

Don't forget the Door Panels I've herd of them in there as well. Sounds like they could be just about anywhere. However if the Sheet has deteriorated at the Gas Tank I don't think in the Frame Holes or in the Doors are going to be much better. For whatsits worth I'm the Original Owner of My 80' and have never found one any where else other than on the Tank. However back when the car was New and I started Installing Car Sterio's ect. I didn't know what they were or Care so I might of Thrown it away just like everybody else. Richard........
