Anyone out there have a scan (PDF or Picture) of a tank sticker for a 69?

I have a very fragile portion of my car's tank sticker and the good news is it is the complete list of options. The bad news is there is no VIN info.

I would like to try to piece the info into a repro of what the tank sticker would have looked like new.

Thanks

I don't believe any of the early paperwork included a VIN. I believe they started putting the VIN on in '75 or '76.

So what associates a particular car with its tank sticker?

Still would like to have a scan of a half-way decent tank sticker.

Here's the sheet from my '68.

There are no VIN's assigned to the sheet, only a job #.

Mike is correct, they didn't use the serial number on the tank sticker.
During the ordering process the GM central office used the dealer order information to produce a seven page Corvette order which contained the  Corvette Order Copy (gas tank sticker) and three Corvette order sheets. The order copy listed only the various options on the car placed by the dealer. The vehicle serial number was written in large visible numbers by assembly line workers on the Corvette order copy at the top right of the page to help with identification of the car on the line. It was a shorter form, for example, 21889 minus 500 is 389. That is the pencil written number on my tank sticker. It is said that the job numbers in '69 ran from 1-500. So take your serial number (VIN number) subtract 500 from the last 3 or 4 numbers and that will give you the shorter version of your number that is in pencil on your order copy. I hope this is helpful and the information that you are looking for.    Butch

Yes and No.  The assembly line at St. Louis usually held about 500 Corvettes in various stages of completion which is where the 500 figure comes from.  Subtracting 500 from the VIN works for some cars, but not others.

The penciled number is the job number assigned by workers in the body shop to track bare bodies before VIN numbers were assigned.  It may or may not have an association with the actual VIN, but it will match chalk or grease pencil marks which might still be visible on the underbody.

Chalked "310" on the rear wall of the underbody on this one.  You could expect to find "310" on the tank sticker.

Grease pencil "394" on tranny hump.  "394" would have been on the sticker.  This could also have been abbreviated "94".

.

In 1973, the sticker format changed from portait to landscape and contained considerably more information, including the VIN.  These stickers were too large to glue to the top of the tank, so they started taping them to the front of the tank.

Below is a picture of my 71's tank sticker. Note the 281 circle on the top right. That is the last 3 digits of my vin number. Also, there was written in hand "Big Job" (not shown on this scan), might have been lingo to put in the big block.
