All of us 76 owners have to contend with the '76 midyear changes'. Those annoying little mods that GM decided to make half way thru the model year. Does anyone know exactly when the change from 76E to 76L occurred ? The reason I'm bringing this up is becacuse I thought the white princess was 76L but she seems to have a mix of both... |headscratch|

I would believe your's to be a late, but it infact may be an "early" 76L. New model years begin in Aug or Sept, I'm not sure which. Mine was built in Sept/1975, an "early". Your vette was built approx 7 months in to the model year, a little over 1/2 way. So I would imagine that it could have recieved some of the last "76E" stuff, along with some of the new "76L" stuff. |haha|
Besides breaking down the serial number, you can also get the month/year, but not the day, from the drivers door, if the sticker is still there.

Vette(s): 1975 Coupe NOM 350: Edelbrock 64cc heads, QJet clone, Performer manifold & cam, gear drive and water pump; MSD ProBillet dist and 6A box, Comp rollers, Hedman headers into true duals, Magnaflow cans,TH400 w/shift kit, TT2's, 3.70RA, hi-rise hood
Don't be surprised if there isn't a "pure" cutover date. From what I understand, the factory used what was in the E parts bin until itwas empty. If the various E parts bins emptied at different times (i.e. building different cars) then there's a group of hybrids out there. Perhaps including yours.

Another possibility is that a PO made some substitutions. Example: I believe the aftermarket supply of E rear nameplates has dried up. That means an L nameplate if a nameplate was required.

(My 75 has a 76L nameplate on a smooth rear bumper, courtesy of a PO; "correct" 75 bumper is debossed for individual letters.)

April 19, 1976 -- thanks Normand... |thumb|
Took a peek in the door jam and found the GM tag. It was stamped with "I15". I believe this is the code for when the body was installed? After some research I believe the "I" indicates 'APRIL'...

Close. It is the body build date, which was usually a couple of days (could be more) before the date the car was assembled.
