Good for you, Micki! It's great that you set such a good example--not just for female drivers (Corvette and otherwise)--but for everyone. I second the distinguished T. Spielman's motion for "Corvette Texas Lady" (well, given the tattoo parlor thing, not entirely sure about the 'lady' part...but let's not get too technical...)

Cookie, I have several of the ones you can buy at Pep-Girls, Wally-Mart, etc., for around $20-30. They're just mini-floor jacks. They won't fit in the jack compartment, but you can wrap it in a towel, and stash it in the rear corner of the car.(the space back there on either side of the main compartment floor, behind the wheelwells) Beats walkin, or waiting on the tow service...

Even if'n yall buy one o them thar fancy hydralic jacks ya should use em every once in a while. It isn't uncommon for the gremlins ta get ta these things too. I have one in my truck and my camper. A couple of times the one in the truck has developed an I don't wanna go up problem. (It's one o them cheap Wally World uns.)
If'n I jack around with it (pun intended) fer awhile it has always worked. But one of these days it is gonna win.
Best jacks aside from the roller jacks I have are the old screw type. Flip the lever an rachet them up (or down). They never fail. Bought em at a garge sale about a hunnerd yrs ago. Old as the hills now but still work great fer the $$$.

Just a note to add to this topic.   Anything you put inside the car should be light weight and soft.   God forbid you get forced off the road and that Jack that was sitting in the towel becomes a flying missle headed for the front seat area.

I bought a replacement jack from either zip or ecklers, works great. I agree with falcon, I don't put anything in the back that could go flying. I don't know what material they used to make the original jacks, but the new replacement ones seem to be pretty rugged.

I'll clarify me idea... The only time I ever put a jack in my car is on a road trip. If I'm just toolin 'round town, I don't need it. If I'm on da road, there's plenty of other crap back there that will keep it all nice & snug...no room for movement of any kind. I'm more concerned with the tools bonkin me than the thing that's stuck in the farthest corner of the car. The soft sided luggage will cushion any movement forward.

I pack all my tools and stuff in a gym bag, just a travelin habit of mine. I have another one with car care products in it as well.

It keeps stuff from rollin around and if I want to loan it to somebody trustworthy I can. Likewise I can pack the tools off to the room at nite dependin on what I have packed.

I've got both my jack and spare original tyre out every year and made sure both are in good safe operation.    I trust both for a long trip.
