Say Wiz. I know exactly how ya feel!  Thumbs%20Up I bought my latest obsession around Thanksgiving, but did not have it delivered until just before Christmas.  Boy, was that the longest wait!  My wife said I was acting just like a kid waiting for Santa, counting down the days!! Then to make matters worse, we experienced a real bad blizzard in the Mid-west and my car got caught on the road.  Driver had to hole up in a motel for three days because his rig and enclosed trailer were no good on the ice.  I-70 was a mess and I'm glad he waited. Clap Within minutes of unloading it from the trailer, I had several comments on what a kool kar it was!!  Merry Christmas.  I feel for ya man, but this, too, shall pass. Wink

The worst time for me was the last time I ordered a new one. They said it would be built in 8 weeks. Took over ten. Now if it ain't on the lot and ready in a day, I ain't interested.

Waiting sux!! There's no way I could handle buying a car, especially a 'Vette, and have to wait on it to get "home"...I'm with Dave, if I can't drive it home, I'll keep lookin!!

That being said, congrats on finding the one you did, and getting it, however long it takes to get it!!

My 1st Vette was bought in the dead of winter with bad outside conditions. The fella I bought it from let me leave it there for about a month before I went ta pick it up. I remember watching the weather report on the news each day with much dismay.

I thought the sun would never come out an play...

The day I finally went ta get it a friend of mine plowed the drive to the garage so I could get it in. I was nervious the whole time bringing it homw. (I drove it) Fiberglass creeks and groans alot went it is less than 30 outside.

I will say that it was fun spinnin doughnuts in the school yard before makin the break for the driveway though...

Vette(s): 73 coupe bought new in 1973 with only luggage rack, AM/FM radio, HD battery & Maplight as options. L48, 4 speed, Paint Med Met Blue 922 interior Dark saddle 418 special order. Repurchased 4/1/06 after 24 years.
Anticipation is half the fun!!!   When I originally ordered my 73 it was around Jan 73 and I couldn't take ownership of it until June (Air Force Academy Rules).  It got delivered to the dealer around the third week of April 73 and I hitched a ride down to see it, sit in it, run the engine, and play the radio.  It was my first car and I was 20 at the time.  Waiting that month and a half was the longest time in my life.  I went down there about every other week to sit in it and dream.  About an hour after my last final on Friday of finals week I was driving my new baby down to New Mexico (500 miles) to pick up my girlfriend and bring her back for June week and the Ring Dance (Like Junior Prom).  I gave her her diamond the same day I got my ring about a week after taking possession of my Vette.  I was on top of the world!  Getting it back after all these years is almost as good.  I could hardly wait the 2 weeks it took to arrange airline tickets to fly out to Calif and drive it home.  I still have to take a long look at it every day when I get home from work and the garage door goes up.  There are some things that are just meant to be, and corvettes are just one of those things!

Three months was the time period for my 78SA. Saw it on Rogers Corvettes web site down in Orlando. Called on it, yeah they still had it, and they sent pictures. Beautiful! Called em back the next day to tell them I wanted it(sight unseen!). "Well, it's sold". Huhh! Seems a guy flew in from Europe a few weeks before and wanted it, was supposed to set up shipping. First they told me. Asked if they had a deposit. NO, but they know he's coming for it.

For the next few weeks it was still shown on their site. Called a few times and they were still waiting on the Europeon buyer. Finally I was told it's going out May 1.  About May 15 it was still on their site. Called again. "Yeah we still have it, Roger said to put it back up for sale"!!!! I told em I'll take it, gave em a credit card no. for a deposit and express mailed a check out the next day. Car was mine!

Called my sis in law who is a car shipping broker. She set up a driver for me the next day. Driver calls and says he's gonna pick it up the following Friday. Great!  Then he says it will be to Chicago in 2 weeks. What?! Seems he was going to pick it up, go home and take a week off while his OPEN rig sits in front of his house with my Vette on it. NO WAY. Then he offers to take it off the truck and put it in his garage for the week. NO WAY! DON'T pick it up.

So Rogers helped me set up a pickup with his preferred carrier, closed. But it was end of May and all the snowbirds were now heading back up north and all the trucks were booked. Take a few weeks. I guess no problem as long as Rogers kept it inside. Then I get a call from Roger. Seems my sis in laws driver is there to pick up the car. No way does he get it, I had told him to forget it!

Finally got here the 4th of July.

When I bought the white 79, I went and got it. Total time purchase to home...2 days.

Well I have told this story before but here goes agian.  Yes, I repurchased the exact same car.  I had it from Jun 73 till jun 82 and drove it daily (86,000  miles).  I sold it after we were expecting our first child.  Then 2 months after selling it to a guy in Cupertino California we moved to Puyallup Washington and started a new life as parents.  I didn't think much more about it, but over the years I often wished I had kept the car.  Well just out of the blue last March I was thinking about my old vette and wondered what it would be worth today if I had kept it (ie would it have been a good investment).  So on a whim I went to Ebay motors to check on current 73 vette prices.  I did a search on 73 vettes and about 10 or so came up.  I clicked on the first blue one I saw and in total shock I instantly realized it was my car.  (many distinguishing features like.  special order color combination 922 blue/418 brwn; modified front fender lower flair; speakers in rear qtr panels; no options ect maplight; location 30miles from where sold in 82, proper body build date, ect.)  I called my wife and told her our car was for sale on Ebay and she said quote "well you are going to have to buy it back" (I knew she was a keeper).  After some emails and calls the car was mine.  It even has my name written in it I later discovered on the inside of the battery box cover (JC Penny battery warrenty sticker from august of 1978).  Needless to say they will have to pry this car from my cold dead hands, cause I am never going to sell it again!
