Ok...had a nice train ride to Queens this morning after a nice phone call. I should have been working on papers group projects and the rest of school live...blah!

So...I needed a new starter, and one wire was messed up. A few fuses were blown but I didn't get charged for them. Also had the power steering bracket replaced(it broke weeks ago, but haven't seen much of the car in those weeks). The car starts great, very quiet. Drives like I expect and handles very well. All for $343.80. It cost me more to get it transported to Queens. Oh yeah...the problem that the shop upstate couldn't solve in a day less than two weeks? Took two days for the shop in Queens to fix.

So...you've heard the good news...ready for the bad? I'm not...not really. The shop upstate pulled parts apart and didn't bother to put them back together. The console came out, the metal frame that it bolts into is on the floor of the passenger's footwell, as are the screws. The HVAC controls are not lined up at all. I didn't notice right away so I didn't ask the shop in Queens if they took it out, but considering...I don't think they did. There is a wire directly under the steering column that is cut and just dangling there...both ends. I've got no clue what it is, and I'm not really sure why its there. Just looks sloppy. Next fun thing that I thought I was paying to get fixed is the power windows. The passengers side goes up. The drivers side doesn't. Well...it does. However, I had to arrange that. The Regulator(bracket that holds the glass) was knocking agaisnt a bolt inside, I think on the power window motor, but it might have been the latch assembly. So I had to take the cover off the regulator access to release the pressure and make it work. My mind is absolutely boggled by the fact that my car came back with problems that it didn't have when I left it. Oh...yeah...one of the hoses for the power-steering is crossthreaded which has "ruined the powersteering piston and the hose and they'll need to be replaced." WHAT? I just got an entirely new powersteering system...the bracket broke AND its together wrong?

Those fools are what give good mechanics bad names.

I wonder about mechanics sometimes. |headscratch|

the garage here in town we have been dealing with for years..The owner is great...but I dunno lately.

Seems that the Vette(s) come back with ''problems'' after something is fixed.

example.

Hubby got his transmission replaced(warranty work) and now the wipers don't work and the blower fan for the heating/AC doesn't work.

Glad to hear that TWW didn't cost too much to get back on the road.

Perfect reason why I do my own mechanics. If I break it, I've learn't a lesson and have noone else to blame. If I don't know something I can always ask and then make up my own mind. Ken the master is always here!!

This is the reason that as soon as I finish my master's (getting closer all the time it seems) I'll be reversing the order that college kids usually take by going back to school for an associate's. I'm practiced in school and just a wee bit intimidated by machines. I've got a fairly decent grasp of mechanical stuff...but I think I'd be better off learning in an environment I know and understand(classroom) before I try to do somethin' crazy like fix my car! Soon though...soon. Every shop that works on her is bringing that day closer and making that ability to work on her on my own so much more important.

cayahoga? I'm not too sure, but its definitely a selling point for that area of the world. I've got an addiction...cars. Cars cost money. I'm going to go where I get the most money/cost of living and work at the place that pays the most net dollars...if the second or third best place is near Ken's school(within an hour) It becomes first choice. I just hope I can find work anywhere...
