Ok, Id like to post this anonymously but.... hehehe my wife will prob kill me if she sees this hehehe....
I'm looking at buying a 80 that caught on fire...
the front end was pretty well destroyed by the fire.. I plan to get the car cheap and either repair or part out the car (depending on what it will take to fix it up...
I'm certain that it'll take a frame off to do it. (every peice of plastic and rubber MUST be gone.. so I may simply emay off the parts to get a more "simple" car to restore.. anyone ever re-do a fire victim?
any advise?
what's a good proce for this thing?
thanks,
timg...
I'm getting addicted.... oh no...

If you buy it, I think you'd do better to part it out. A burned car has many, many issues...all expensive to deal with. Somewhat like a flood car...more than you can imagine to repair or replace.
A burned car, depending on how bad and intense the fire, can have issues with the steel frame losing temper and being weakened.
Unless it's a car you've had in the family for years and have an attachment to, I think it's far too bad a deal to restore. Not that it can't be done and done well, but it won't be cost effective.

Being in the insurance biz, you ARE facing a nightmare of a restore. Its a pedestrian car with a branded title. If you had a BB67, thats another story. I wouldnt even part it out. The heat distorts stuff like you couldnt believe, it sounds like the motor is gone too... good luck
so, depending on the damage... and the price of the car it'll either be a parts car or a wasteof my time....
I suppose if the damage is minimal it could be a restore?
I suppose I'll negotiate a price and see if it's worth my time....
hmmm, maybe some good "spare parts"?

can always re-do the front end and make it a SCCA racer?
I too been considering buying a total basket case to turn into a road racer.... not that iod ever really race it, just would be nice to have a corvette that "being correct" was not a issue.....

Not a bad idea to get one that's not all original. I would be racin' it at the drag strip. Love drag racin'.........better than sex.

Unless there are specific parts you want / need or you can get this at some rediculas price I would stay away from it. There are plenty of cars available that would make good project cars. Unless you just want to work hard and not get a great return this doesn't sound like one of them to me.
Better than sex? Not doing it right?
Which one is not done right...... the sex or the drag racing?
I'm so confused!
