I wouldn't pay $1500 even if it was certified to still have the same air that was put into it at the factory.
Do you really get extra points for a never used spare?
All five tires/wheels are judged when judging a car. The spare is included. Usually you'll have 30 points for originality, and 30 points for condition, spread over all 5 tires. So...if you have condition issues with the road tires that will lose points, but you have a flawless original spare tire/wheel, it can off-set the loss of the condition points. In this case, the spare tire/wheel is the only one accessible for judging the date of the rim. You can't see the rim dates with the trim rings on the road wheels, so they are not judged for date correctness, but the spare wheel is, so...this wheel/tire combo will go to someone that needs one with that specific date, whatever it is.
Is it worth $2500? Not for most folks. But...if someone has a car that needs that extra 2-3 points on their total for a Top Flight/Duntov Award, or even someone that needs it to garner a "Bow Tie" award, and they have LOTS of $$$ to shell out for such frivolities, then YES, it's worth it.

Joel, thanks for your perspective on this. While it did not change my mind on it being a mind boggling price
for an original spare, I can certainly now see why someone "might" pay a big price for it.

Man the prices I have seen on "original" parts needed for NCRS judging are amazing. Since my car is still so original maybe I should just part it out on e-Bay. Maybe I could get enough money go buy me an LT-1 or big block C3
.

Say speaking of needing original parts, my original Delco Remy B-R 270 coil developed a crack on top near one of the terminals. It is oozing oil now and cannot be put back on my car
. Anyone have one of these laying around that they would be willing to part with?? If so let me know how much.

Roger

Dam, I have my original tire and wheel with the nubs on it and it even has 1972 air in it. Maybe I should offer it up on e-bay

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
When I get back from Japan I'm checking my 82 CE. I bet it is original my whole car does not have a lot of road miles on it.
Of course most likely there are a lot more 82 spares than 70's on cars
