Question for tool gurus. Got a wheel stud with pretty chewed up initial threads....having a hard starting the restoring die. The threads are good midway down the stud...is there a device that can be started on the good threads and restore from the bottom up?

In the die set I have, the dies are split and fit into an adapter/handle with three screws to hold it in place in the handle. The middle screw can be used to spread the die to make it easier to get over a screwed-up spot then uncrewed to tighten back up with the outside screws . Think the set came from Harbor Freight. Hope this helps. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...
