I am just about there with picking a motor and was wandering if anybody has herd of American speed Enterprises in Moline IL? Just wonder if it was legit. It bothers just a tad to send a credit card number to somebody of the web. I am going to call the Better Business Burial today to see whats going on if anything.

Well, when ya get er done, I hope you'll consider takin a little test run south so we can hook up David. I've got a motor transplant,paint and brake overhaul to to finish on the '81, but I'll try to look you up if I finish first.

Ask them for a list of customers in your area, then call them to see if they are happy.

There are tons of good engine builders in CA. Why go half way across the country? If they are close enough, you can check them out in person.

What I would worry about is after it's installed in your car and something goes wrong, you can't bring the car to them. I like being able to be there myself and see everything up close & personal, just my opinion.

I'm with you Dave! I would rather shuck out an extra grand and be able to get trouble shooting help. Or, worst case scenario look the person in the eye and state my case.
My buddies own a speed shop in town. When I was younger I had an account and half of my paycheck went to them each week. What I learned from them was priceless. Today I can go there and buy stuff at cost. They don't need my $$$$ anymore they build race engines...
But the friendship we developed taught me alot about mechanics and opened some new doors. I would definately check out some reputable locals 1st. Price isn't always the best motivator.

Good points guys. Hell half the time when I am looking up I don't know which way is up when it comes to this vette. But you are correct with your advice. Now I am on plan 49.
I was in Corvette Express in Vacaville yesterday and I told the owner my plan and he had the same thought as you. I told him I had a date code 70 block and he suggested I take it to his mechanist in Napa and that he would take me to met to him to get the feel of the guy and place. So I have date set up for next week.
Now I have to go spend my Daly 10 minutes of steering at my self in a mirror saying over and over THIS VETTE WILL BE BUILT.
