Our cruise control transducer was disconnected (by some PO, for some
strange reason) from its mounting place on the inside of the wheel well.
So it's hanging by the cables/hoses, which obviously I want to fix.
I can see the two holes where (the missing) bolts go through the well, and
I can roughly feel the underside of the transducer itself, where the
attaching bracket seems badly bent.
Can anybody enlighten me on how this bracket should be when it's in
correct shape? Two bolts, with washers/nuts? Approximate angle the
bracket should be? I'm going to remove the cables/hoses and the
transducer itself, but in advance of that it would be really helpful to know
more about what I'm going to be dealing with--and if anyone can suggest
a source for a new bracket, which I may discover I need, that would be
equally appreciated.
A related question: is there any problem with operating the car with the
various cables/hoses detached from the transducer? The car isn't street-
driven yet--just moved very short distances from parking spot to parking
spot. The speedo isn't working right now, which I attribute to a broken
cable(s), or a locked-up transducer (possible solutions all gleaned from
the smart/helpful knowledge found on this forum, btw!)

Well, the bracket really isn't meant to be removed, it's pop riveted to the inner fender at the factory. Probably why it's bent up, Bubba got frustrated! Remove the transducer and remount the bracket, just 2 holes at the inner well, then reattach the transducer to the bracket, 2 bolts, don't miss the ground wire. If it's too bent up, there's a guy on ebay goes by "corvettemack" that I've contacted in the past for a specific part. Shouldn't be any problem with leaving it off the car for awhile, just plug the main vacuum line that comes off the T at the rear of the intake manifold. Mike
Mike--thank you VERY much. This info is exactly what I needed; and the
illustration from the AIM gives me a perfect visual guide for making the
repair.
This ol' '78 Silver Anniversary had so much road grime built up on her
that I was having a hard time seeing just what I was dealing with down
there in the dark depths. So today I got out the Simple Green and cleaned
her up as much as I could--in part because I need to get the speedo/
cruise fixed.
Thanks to you, I can now go ahead with confidence making this repair.
(And I'll be cursing Bubba for making it necessary in the first place!) I
really appreciate your quick reply, and clear directions, a lot.
