I highly recommend having the new valve/sleeve/spring installed on any early(non-computer controlled) 700. Some of the valve kits come with a couple of different springs, so you can fine-tune the lock-up apply time. You really don't need lu until around 40-50mph anyway, in my opinion. The GM kits raise the lu apply to about 48 mph, in most cases.

[QUOTE=Adams' Apple]Craig, if the convertor will un-lock with slight throttle pressure, then the problem will not be the solenoid itself, nor is it likely it is any other electrical problem. You may have a bad/weak lu control spring.

Yups. That's were I want it to lock up. I'll try to get that taken care of soon and let you know how it worked out. I have the Throttle Valve set properly (finally), and that made a difference in shift points and firmness, but this TCC is a pain, hence the switch
Did ya get it fixed yet?
Like cthulhu said, actually, 2 isn't low, it's just the lowest you can shift manually into. The 700r4 has a real "creeper" low gear, and on mine and the other 82's I'm familiar with, you put it into 2, but it always takes off in 1 then shifts quickly into 2, where it stays until you shift up to 3 or D (OD). My TCC locks in 2,3,OD. I want to mod it to get it to just lock in OD over 45 mph, if anyone knows how to do that......Yes,it is fine.I never really use it and didn't notice that it went as low as 2 and then shifts really quickly into second.Sorry my bad
