First off, this is not an original idea of mine. I saw it posted on one of the corvette forums showing some underhood detail but what caught my eye was the work light, it was one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments. I dont remember where I saw it but if it was by one of our members, thanks. Once I saw it I had to try it and it works FANTASTIC. I had this old fixture laying around the garage and cobbled up some brackets to make it hang level from my hood brackets. The thing gives even illumination to the entire engine compartment and best of all, its OUT OF THE WAY. I knew I had to pass this one on to my family here at C3VR.

Thanks Chip, that is so simple.
Nice detail job on engine compartment, could you swing by and do mine?

Be careful working around the exposed florescent tubes. They tend to come out of those fixtures fairly easily. They also don't withstand much impact. It there is a way you can enclose them I would think about doing so.

Thanks Tux, good point. The one Im using is intended to be used as an under counter light and has a clip on plastic cover over the bulb. I would be hesitant to use a bare bulb fixture under the hood.
That's a great idea! Excellent!!!

Thanks for passing that along!
P.S. Maybe some electrical tape wrapped around 2 or 3 spots along the
fixture would keep the bulb from falling, if it came loose.
Where do you find a mercury switch to make it come on and go out when you open and close the hood?

Did you have to notch the fenders so it will clear when closed?

Okay, not those questions are just stupid.

Actually, it's a great idea.
I like it.
Thanks.

Working on the fender notches now kstyr got to figure out how to keep from breaking the bulb when I slam the hood. No stinking murkry switch on that baby, just twist the wares together when you want it to come on.
