Vette(s): 1975 L-48, 4 speed, side pipes, currantly and continually under repair.
Build Date: June 16, 1975
The best way for you to track down previous owners of you vette is to go to your local DMV and request a VIN search of your vette. Some states will not allow this, if your state does allow it there may be a small fee involved.
I would stay away from any web site that say they will track the vin numbers for you. Go directly to the source, your local DMV Department of Motor Vehicles
Good Hunting

I have spent many hours trying to get background on my vette with little success. I found the selling dealer, his number and the order date, production date but nothing else.
My car is out of Chicago and the DMV wont give me info. They said its on file but I can't have it.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
If you have a good friend in the local police dept, you might just talk him into getting this info for you.

Hi, I m Ron in Eagle Pass, Texas and relatively new comer...3 weeks. Had similar problems when trying to get current insuracne company to add to my policy... long run didn't want to insure comp/coll, et al. Numbers were the problem... data bases - most go back to 1980's and require to enter a 17 digit number, I think, like you, 1977 and earlier had 13 digits. Here's my problem. Texas title - it is rebuilt salvage - got it in complete shape. but wonder where it says Make of Vehicle - listed as VAQU - Anyone know if that's correct for TX title 1977. ANd like you, would like to find out at least a little history.

Apparently there is a Federal Privacy of Information Act which is why DMV are not permitted to divulge information of previous owners of cars. I don't know how any "pay" website could get aroung a federal law. I guess if your car doesn't have a "pedigree history" your out of luck. If anyone finds another way of tracing VIN owner history, please let me know. Thanks.
