Vette(s): 1973 coupe 454 auto

Morning folks!

I'm a new and unexpected owned of a 73 454 t-top that just came along at an unbelieveable price. I have a couple questions that will rattle a few purest but I'm looking for guidence.

The car is what seems to be mostly original with the following exceptions:

Was factory silver and was repainted

the hood was changed to a none crowl induction

the engine number are a CE######## engine.

I've seen post along the net that ssaid it was possible for this to be a warranty replacement motor.

The engine is out and was going to be freshened when I bought it. With the above mentioned, Is it worth repainting it silver and putting a proper original year hood on it with the motor numbers or is this definately a none numbers car. Every thing else matches.

It the car is not factory, then I'd build the engine as a LS% and drop it back in, if not I want to make an informed decision.

I plan on holding on to and passing this car along to my son.

Thoughts?

Dick

"CE" signifies a replacement engine assembly, most likely a warranty replacement. In some circles, this doesn't really affect the value of the car, in others circles, it does. Go figure! If the engine was a warranty replacement, and the date code bears that out, then I would not worry about it. The original engine is gone, so no matter what you put in it, it will never have the original engine.
I say fix it any way you want. It's your car. If you will pass it down to your son, then it should be a car you like.
I would, however, try to locate the original style, cowl-induction hood. They look so kewl! What type of hood does it have?

I am with Joel on that.
Fix it like you want it. Original is a preference not a necessity. I like mine at least original appearing  and have been known to add some fiberglass goodies on some others. Original is good if you are sell it to another person that wants original or if you want to get it judged by someone like NCRS, however there is a market out there for custom Vettes as well. I have a friend that has a 76 with a sticker on it that says NCRS   (Not Correctly Restored.... )
