Vette(s): 1970 corvette conv, 350 auto.
OK, after reading about restamping
, I decided to do a little more looking at my engine, and as such want to verify these # all match and make sense.....AND that I understand them correctly. The # on my window pillar (194670S415457) is correct for a 1970 convertible, and the # on the front passenger side engine pad is (70S415457) and (VO623CTG) engine # seams to match the pillar VIN and if I understand the VO code correctly it says June 23 engine build,Flint MI and THM 400 Tranny, 350 cubic inch 300 HP...VIN states a mid July build...this all seams ok....If I am incorrect please let me know, Also the engine has 21GM cast down near the bellhousing (viewed from top) as well as 3970010...would like to know what these mean as well. Intake manifold #3965577 GM6 I dont realy know why I am torchuring myself with this...but...would like to know what I have, and of course is there a way to determine the transmission matches the car/engine....I would think it does but, would like to know for sure Thanks Very Much for any help!!!

Eric,
All of the #'s you listed are correct for a 1970 Vette with a 350 Cid / 300 HP motor with an auto transmission.
The "21GM" & "GM6" are casting mold numbers.
If you want to really go numbers crazy, you can look at the trim tag, carb, coil, starter, water pump, exh. manifolds, trans, windows, & and rear end where the #'s are visible.
The valve covers have to come off to see the head #'s & the distributor pulled to see it's #'s. You can go even crazier trying to compare date codes.
As for the trans, My #'s were on the vertical boss on the passenger side. The trans # should look like this - P0F##A. P = Muncie, 0=1970, F=June, ##= day asssembled, A/B/C = M-20/M-21/M-22
An NCRS pocket guide helps with numbers ID & is a cheap way to get info. Check out this site also:
Good luck,
Anthony
