I am looking at 1970 (or so the title says)Corvette. The Vin number starts with a 1644, and ends with 26473. Does anyone no what may be going on with this VIN# it does not seem to match any numbers listed for any 68-72 Corvette. Appreciate any info, Thanks

Ty, it should be something like 194 ( 1=GM, 94=corvette) The last 6 digits are a sequence number for the car. It would be easier if you could post the entire VIN and we could help you better.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I agree with Chris.

The number should read

19430S400001 to 19430S417316

If it is a convertible, the 4th number will be a "6"

1 = chevrolet
94 = Corvette
37=coupe 67=Convert
0= 1970
S = St Louis, mo
400001 to 417316= Sequential number

Sounds like the VIN number is messed up on this one...

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
I'm not exactly sure the VIN decoder has all of the information that is required for all years. I have a VIN from a 79 vette of 1Z8789S452878, but according to the VIN decoder the (87) should be a (37) coupe or (67) convertible. All in all, though, I think I agree with everyone else, you need to include the entire VIN from the vehicle and perhaps one of us, or the VIN decoder can help.

(Hope to have a picture of my "baby" to attach to these postings soon!)

Mark,

I see by your VIN , that your vette is a very late model 79. Does it have an 85 MPH speedometer in it? Supposedly a lot of the very late ones did. The 85 MPH speedometer was standard in the 1980 vettes. |thumb|

Speaking about 85 MPH speedos, I have a place that we can get 140 MPH ones for somewhere in the area of $65. If there is an interest, I can post the info. |biggrin|

I just ran your VIN through, and it seemed to interperet the (87) correctly:

Division (1): Chevrolet
Car Line (Z): Corvette
Body Style (87): Two-Door Coupe
Engine Type (8): L48-350ci,195hp
Model Year (9): 1979
Plant (S): St. Louis, MO
Sequence Number: 452878
