Interesting reading - all these replies and not one person seems to have ever learned to drive stick on a 'Vette. Maybe that's why the old ones are still around?

I seem to be the exception. I've never wanted to learn how to drive a stick but all my friends keep telling me that they'd be happy to teach me, though not on their vettes.

Hey all,
I taught my oldest daughter how to drive a stick in my 68 roadster. I found that she paid a lot better attention to what she was doing compared to when she drove any other car.
My neice is going to learn this summer in my 93 Coupe. SHe may be a bit of a handful as she isn't as afraid of me as my daughter was.

You are a brave, brave man. I told my youngest daughter, now 13, when she got into high school and wanted to go someplace special, she was taking the Celebrity, not the Corvette! I'll let my oldest drive it, but it's an automatic. I still remember her in the D50 pickup LOL.

Very interesting "culture" difference -> To "stick" or not to "stick"
The first automatic I drove was my first Vette. In SA the norm is to drive a manual (shift as you know it).
I am driving for about 20 years now. The first time I drove an automatic was about 1 1/2 years ago. I was scared to death when I got behind the wheel!
WARM greetings from a sunny SA!

I taught my wife when were first dating on a`966 Datsun 1600, their sorts car before the 240z. She learned very quickly and drives shifts very well. We've always had one stick shift cars out of our two, now 3, but her Vette is an automatic. But trying to teach my oldest son with my Cavalier was a nightmare. He finally quit and won't drive a stick shift. He just didn't really want that car he wanted our old minivan which is now his
