[QUOTE=Bob Griffiths]
My brother actually did this on a Street Rod aboput 10-15 years ago in Maryland... only to discover that it is ILLEGAL in Maryland ... ???

Trucks especially "fancy" 18 wheelers can have a million lights on over on top of under you name it on their trucks.. but put something UNDER a passenger vehicle is ILLEGAL...

Made no sense to either of us and still does not... made no difference if the car was being driven or simply parked at a cruise in etc......it was only a 25 buck fine but he had to have the car inspected to verify that he removed them...!

I can't see it being illegal in any state, especially not a state where there's large cities, and bound to be lots of custom cars.  I know a lot of states have laws about the HEIGHT of the mounting of the lights, and at how many ft etc etc should the light be visible, though.

Laws vary from state to state. I have never heard of a law that dictates what one can put on an exhibit car. Here in SC oscillating blue or red lights are prohibited on everything except emergency vehicles,but there is even an exception for that on parade or show cars. Also any blue light is prohibited if it is visible to on coming traffic or the vehicle in front of you. Retail outlets that sell these lights must have the packages clearly marked "not for highway use, display purposes only".
As far as neons on these C3's, I think it would detract from the natural beauty of the cars.
My 2 cents,
Scott

Larry,

Please listen to us! Don't do it man! A Vette is too perfect, and too classy for that! It would actually destroy that car. If I seen taht rolling down the street a Vette with under lights, I would be disgusted, probably flip off the driver instead of the Vette wave, and pass him. You're alos talking about street rods, not Vettes.... nothing can ever comapre to a Vette, ever.

if youre interested in using custom neon, have you considered LED accent lighting? the advantage to them is that they can be used in strips like neon, or just used in small areas to get the effect you like. ive seen them used in engine compartments and interiors with neat looking effects.

i was considering this at one time, but opted not to, as i felt a stock vette would look out of place with this stuff- this is what i found:

Now I love Corvettes, (obvious with 5 in the garage) BUT I am a strong avocate of doing your thing to your own car...PERIOD!

If The original poster wants to plant a Vegie  garden on the passengers side of the car...FINE WITH ME....  Its his, he should be able to do anything he wants with it...

HOWEVER ... This car is a 1970.... Drum Roll: >>>>  LT-1 ...solid lifters
The rightest of the right stuff for driving fun...Big Block power with
 the handling (the ability to chew up Big Blocks on any road course (or street that are not 1/4 mile long and straight as an arrow...)

SO ...I sure as the devil (was going to use a 4 letter word) would NOT do this...and thats my opinion.... !Instead I would put some Raised white letter "tars" on that Baby FIRST...
