Has anyone done any frame welding on a mid to late 70's vette?
I have heard that these were the years they started using recycled steel in the frame.
I am just looking for some pointers as to what to expect when it comes time to fixing some broken bones in my shark.
Thanks in advance!

Nothing recycled in Shark frames. The A. O. Smith Company made them for GM. You shouldn't have any trouble welding after taking the regular precautions. Remember: fiberglass WILL burn and it's an ugly sight when it does.

Thanks guys!

I've never had any problems welding the C-3 frames. Long as their is good meat there "metal" and you grind off the rust is should take weld fine. Personally I always try to get a backup plate in behind my weld to have something solid to bury the weld into. Depends a lot of where the weld is etc, but in general should a straight forward repair job for a welder who knows what he's/she's doing. Don't let a Tacker do the job. Also, make sure you protect your car, from weld spatter, make sure no dripping oil or grease close by or gas fumes. As one guy above mentioned they go up fast. Keep and fire extingisher close by. If your doing a off frame restore much eaiser for the welding. Sound like you might be looking at a little drivers side real wheel rust........Plenty to weld back there is you do it right.
