Hello everyone...
This past weekend I brought home a new member of our family

. I am going to call her Penny and she is a 1972 unmolested Survivor from Austin, Texas. She is Bryar Blue and is a 350/200 automatic with a black vinyl interior. She is about as close to NCRS ready as I believe you could find for a 36 year old car. The paint is fantastic and the interior looks almost new. She is very beautiful although does need some work in a few areas.
This is my first Corvette and would like to know everyone's opinion on the following:
What would you recommend as the best maintenance manual for my 1972? I need to do some engine, suspension and other work on my car and need a good reference. It would be nice to have one that details the vacuum system (although everything seems to work fine there are some connections here and there that appears to be missing some small hoses).
Thanks in advance.
P.S. I will post a picture of "Penny" to add to my signature as soon as I can.

rdupler2, suggestion from me are the assembly manual from Corvette for the assembly plant and all dealer service manuals for the dealers for your year of Corvette. Best tools in the restoration process, thanks.

First of all...if its all complete and unchanged, join the NCRS and have the car judged as a "bowtie" car. If you go this route, DON'T WORK ON IT. Keep it just the way it is, you can only get a "bowtie" judging once.
After that, you can do what you like with the car, but bowtie status will never go away. It just says that the car was original in the year it was judged. Sounds like a great find to me!

I agree. The assembly instruction manual (AIM) and the GM chassis and services manuals. All are available through the Corvette aftermarket providers and off ebay.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and the congrats!
I searched for a GM Shop manual but none found on eBay. Found a couple of other sites that listed a GM Shop repair manual for 1972 Corvette but they appear to cover other cars as well, e.g., this one on Amazon also covers Chevelle, Camaro, Monte Carlo, and Nova as well.

Should there be one specifically for the '72 Corvette only?
I definitely will go to NCRS site and get the assembly manual. I will eventually join the NCRS and am shooting the Waco regional this Fall? to get a baseline judging and see what I need to do to her to get her at least top flight.
I need to figure out how to post the picture and what are the type and size limits of the file.

Roger

Ya gotta bring it to Waco for the Regional!! Who knows...I might just be judging it....I do accept cash...
If you plan on having it judged, be sure to get the "Technical Information and Judging Guide" from NCRS, too. It will give you a baseline on what is judged, and show you what the judges will be looking for, and how we can tell if it's original or not.
Congrats on the find!

After all our discussion and I never knew you were also an NCRS "official". Imagine that
Perhaps I could bring her over sometime and let you take a look. Maybe with some pointers I could avoid being embarrassed the first time at NCRS Regional.
I did see that judging guide and also noticed there are the official judging sheets on the NCRS site.

I went ahead and updated my profile. Hopefully at least my new vette description will show now. Will post picture as soon as I can.
By the way. Posting is much more fun when you have a car to talk about....ain't it?
