A simple alternator belt on the 78SA. But it hasn't been that simple getting the correct belt. Got one last year from DocRebuild, numbered and dated but still wrong. Too wide which means too short! Tried Corvette Central after the Bloomington show. Ordered according to GM part number on an original belt. Wrong again, too wide also. Apparently they don't make the longer belts in 3/8" widths. CC apparently understood the problem and promised to send out another belt after getting a correct one from their supplier. After waiting 2 months for it, they sent out the exact same wrong one again. Why they stencil the belts with the correct info is a mystery to me!

Anyway, if they don't make a 3/8" wide belt, I decided I was going to make one myself. Yesterday I ran the DocRebuild belt through my tablesaw! Had my helper hold it down with a wood shim while I fed it through. Did 3 passes, taking a sliver off each time. Finished product you can't even tell it's been altered. Put it on this afternoon, fit perfectly. Vette's been sitting since June waiting on this stupid belt, even tho I already had an off the rack belt from PepBoys that had fit perfectly. Just wasn't "correct"!

I'm with Larry and Bob. Other than a dusting, wash or buff, I plan on driving her until the snow flies. Then we can think about working on her.
Next big trip will be to the Museum in October.

Well, I finally got my car on the road for Carlisle. Made it back okay, but had to replace the alternator when I got home. I've been working on getting the interior back together and I have the rear storage compartmentsworking fairly well now. They were a pain to align properly. I put new plugs in today and I plan on doing more interior work tomorrow. I'm driving the car all over to try and put on all the miles I missed while it was out of commission. It's supposed to be great weather this week> Kathy

I was simply going to replace a clogged brake line, bleed the system and go for a spin,  but my pressure bleeder (not really pressure; more of a hand pump) decided otherwise.  I broke the cap on it.  Bought another one 2 minutes before they closed the sotre and I broke the cap on that one too.

No bleeding=no driving.Cry

This week I'll be replacing the shocks on the 77 and I'll be doing some fiberglassing on my 86's door. Some Bozo backed into the door, now there is a gash, dent and a little sprung. It's always something! :)

You got that right.  When I fix one thing, I cause two more problems.  I certainly don't need the help of others to add stuff on my to do list.

On the other side, your '86 could have been confronted with this driver :

(it takes a while to get started, but watch the whole thing... I don't even have words to describe it)

I did get the alternator tested and what do you know, it still works. Woo Hoo!! Good thing too, those bad boys cost $139 plus core at Auto Zone. The Duralast was $159. OUCH!!

Eddie,  if you have one in your area, look for an ACDelco supplier.  I remember getting a starter for under 60$ (after core exchange).  Their core on other things where more than competitive.  It's remanufactured, but it worked wonders for me every time I've been to one and sure paid the right price.

Alternator?  I'm going on top of my head here and could be way off (and off-topic as well), but if my memory serves me right, our alternators are a little weak.  They supply the strick minimum for the original car.  If you added or upgraded anything electrical and you still have the original alternator, those new radios, clocks, power antenna, electric fans,.... they might just kill it.

Glad to hear it's still good.  What made you think it was going away?
