Make sure you got the cap back down all the way...sometimes it happens...

Is it ONLY poppin back thru the exhaust, or does it backfar thru the intake, also?
Does it do it under power, cruising, or deccelleration?
Does the tach work properly, with no jumping at that particular RPM, when it backfars?
How good/new are your plugging wires?
If it wasn't doing this before you "fixed" it(
), it has to be something you moved/disturbed in the process.

It does it whether the engine has a load on it or not.I don't think it's doing it through the injectors.I'll have to check the tack,I didn't look at the tack.If it's sitting there idleing it will pop also.

Maybe you damaged the rotor in the dist. enough to do this when you removed the cap. It's a long-shot, but worth checking. Make sure all of the 'lectrical connections on the cap are nice & snug, also.
You may have a couple of plug wires that are arcing out to each other. They may have been ok until you had to move the cap and stuff to get to the oil sender, and now they're too close.
The #5 and #7 plug wires need to be separated as much as possible, as they can cross-fire if they get too close to each other.
